The Plot And Premise Of When Will Ayumu Make His Move?
When Will Ayumu Make His Move? will be a charming slice-of-life anime series starring everyman protagonist Tanaka Ayumu, a first-year high school student who thinks love and games make for the perfect cocktail. He is already smitten by his beautiful and brilliant senpai Yaotome Urushi, a violet-haired girl who is an expert at shogi. She also runs the school's unofficial shogi club, and Ayumu will join that club so he can get closer to the girl of his dreams. However, it's not as simple for Ayumu, who evidently likes playing games in life too. He stakes his pending love confession on shogi, vowing to not confess his feelings for Urushi until he can defeat her fair and square in shogi.
Ayumu is clearly a stubborn and fun-loving boy who doesn't like things being too easy or simple, and most likely, he's the kind of person who wants to earn absolutely everything he has. That, or he made up this rule so he could buy time and work up the courage to confess to Urushi when he's good and ready. Either way, Urushi soon realizes Ayumu's game and wants him to admit his amorous feelings, but getting him to make that confession is the challenge of a lifetime. The stubborn Ayumu won't dare let anything slip until he wins a game of shogi, and with Urushi being a shogi superstar, that love confession is a long way from happening. The intellectual battle of wits, shogi and love has begun, and everything is on the line. It's time to make a move and hope for the best.
Where To Read & Watch When Will Ayumu Make His Move?
The anime version of When Will Ayumu Make His Move? is due to begin streaming in the West on July 8th, and the sole streaming platform supporting the anime is HIDIVE, since it's Sentai Filmworks that licensed the Ayumu anime. It's not yet clear which languages will be available for subtitles and the dub, but most likely, the anime will initially be available in Japanese dub with English subtitles.
Meanwhile, the When Will Ayumu Make His Move? manga series is ongoing, and a small handful of volumes are already available for purchase in the West for interested fans. So far, the Ayumu manga has five volumes on shelves, with Volume 6 becoming available on July 12th, 2022. Volume 7 will follow on September 6th.
