In this feature we spotlight the various characters, phrases, objects or events that eventually became notable parts of comic lore, like the first time someone said, "Avengers Assemble!" or the first appearance of Batman's giant penny or the first appearance of Alfred Pennyworth or the first time Spider-Man's face was shown half-Spidey/half-Peter. Stuff like that. Here is an archive of all the When We First Met features so far! Check 'em out!

With the Flash's first season over, I thought it'd be nice to look at the first comic book appearances of the various villains the Flash faced during this past season...

I'll cover them in the order that they appeared on the series...

First up is the Mark Mardon, Weather Wizard and his brother Clyde, who both appeared (including the death of one brother) in Flash #110, by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson...

Next is Danton Black, Multiplex, who debuted in the first issue of Firestorm (by Gerry Conway, Al Milgrom, Klaus Janson and Joe Rubinstein) on the same page as Martin Stein's first appearance!

By the way, gotta love Martin Stein's reaction to this news...

Unstable much?

He didn't show up AS Multiplex until the second issue, where he realized that something happened to him at the same explosion that created Firestorm...

and then he made his Multiplex debut...

Next is Kyle Nimbus, The Mist, who made his start in Adventure Comics #67 (by Alfred Bester and Jack Burnley - although I've often seen Gardner Fox credited as creating him, it seems like Bester wrote his first appearance, though, not Fox), as Starman fights off a group of invisible men until their ringleader reveals himself...

Next is one of the very earliest Rogues, Leonard Snart, Captain Cold, who made his bow in Showcase #8 (by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Frank Giacoia)...

Cold's partner in crime, Heat Wave (Mick Rory), showed up in Flash #140 (by Broome, Infantino and Joe Giella) in a bizarre story involving both men becoming obsessed with a TV personality known as Dream Girl...

On the next page, meet the next batch of villains!

Next up is Bette Sans Souci, Plastique, who is another character taken from the pages of Firstorm, specifically The Fury of Firestorm #7 (by Gerry Conway, Pat Broderick and Robin Rodriguez)...

Plastique showed up hunting a guy who I think pretty much counts as a Flash villain, General Wade Eiling, who debuted in Captain Atom #1 (by Cary Bates, Pat Broderick and Bob Smith)...

Next is Tony Woodward, Girder, who first showed up in Flash: Iron Height (by Geoff Johns, Ethan Van Sciver and Prentis Rollins)...

Next is Farooq Gibran, Blackout, who debuted in Flashpoint #1 (by Johns, Andy Kubert and Sandra Hope)...

Digger Harkness, Captain Boomerang, first showed up in Flash #117 by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson, where a toy company decides to make boomerangs the next big "thing" in the United States, but they need someone to publicize them...

The Rainbow Raider debuted in Flash #286 (by Cary Bates, Don Heck and Frank Chiaramonte)...

Eodard Thawne, Professor Zoom/The Reverse-Flash, debuted in Flash #139 (by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella)...

I cropped it right before he reveals his first evil plan, as it is pretty dumb, evil plan-wise.

Captain Cold's sister, Lisa Snart, the Golden Glider, showed up in Flash #250 (by Cary Bates, Irv Novick and Vince Colletta), stealing her brother's new weapon just as he seems to be killing the Flash...

Hartley Rathaway, the Pied Piper, made his bow in Flash #106 (by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella)...

Shawna Baez, Peek-a-Boo, showed up in Flash (Vol.2) #180 (by Geoff Johns, Scott Kolins and Doug Hazlewood)...

Woah, woah, let's slow down with that futuristic dial-up technology there, Cyborg!

On the next page, meet the last batch of villains!

The first Trickster (James Jesse) showed up in Flash #113 (by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella)...

and the second Trickster (Axel Walker) debuted in Flash #183 (by Geoff Johns, Scott Kolins and Doug Hazlewood)...

Bertram Larvan, the Bug-Eyed Bandit (who became Brie Larvan, a female villain, on the TV show), appropriately enough showed up in The Atom #26 (by Gardner Fox, Gil Kane and Sid Greene), as the episode the Bug-Eyed Bandit debuted in also featured the Atom in it...

Hannibal Bates, Everyman, first showed up pretending to be a hero in the newly formed (by Lex Luthor) Infinity Inc., in 52 #21, by Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns, Mark Waid, Greg Rucka, Keith Giffen, Joe Bennett and Jack Jadson...

Finally, Gorilla Grodd first showed up in Flash #106 (the same issue Pied Piper debuted, by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella)....

Jake Simmons, Deathbolt, first appeared on Arrow, but he then was one of the villains transported during "Rogue Air," so I'll feature him. He debuted in All-Star Squadron #21 (by Roy Thomas, Jerry Ordway and Mike Machlan)...
