Arrow is wasting no time in Season 8. The series will pick up only one week after the Season 7 finale when it returns this fall.

"We pick up a week later,” showrunner Beth Schwartz revealed at The CW's Television Critics Association press tour panel.

In the Season 7 finale, the Monitor appeared at Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak's safehouse. He told Oliver to make good on his end of their deal from "Elseworlds," informing him that they would travel to other worlds to warn of the upcoming Crisis. Worse, he revealed Oliver would die in the conflict to come.

As such, it appears Oliver will spend his final, 10-episode season building up to the Arrowverse's five-show crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Seeing as Season 8's conflict "will leave the multiverse hanging in the balance," this further suggests that at least part of the season will be spent on alternate earths.

When Season 8 picks up, Oliver will have just left Felicity and their daughter Mia behind. As such, he'll likely still be reeling from his separation from his family, even as he races to save the multiverse with the Monitor.
