UPDATE (02/07/22): Since publication, CBR has received word that Season 3 of The Wheel of Time has not been confirmed. The original source reporting the renewal, Deadline, has since revised their article to say that the show has been picked up for only one more season.

Prime Video's The Wheel of Time will be back again for a third season, having been renewed while Season 2 is still in production.

The epic fantasy series based on the novels by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson saw great success with its first season, topping Nielsen's ratings for streaming originals. It's now been picked up for two more seasons, as reported by Deadline's Nellie Andreeva in an examination of the cast of Criminal Minds, although an official announcement has not yet come from Amazon. Daniel Henney, who plays Lan Mandragoran in The Wheel of Time, is said to have any potential guest appearance in Criminal Minds subject to his commitment to the next two seasons of the former show.

The Wheel of Time received an early renewal for Season 2 in May 2021, ahead of the first season's long-delayed premiere on Nov. 19. Production on Season 2 began in July, with casting announcements made for several key characters including Elayne Trakand. Showrunner Rafe Judkins previously stated that he had planned for eight seasons of the series to accommodate the fifteen lengthy books it's based on, so as long as it retains viewership numbers, there won't be any lack of material for the show to use as it continues.

Unlike The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power -- the next epic fantasy which will be headed to Prime Video -- The Wheel of Time takes place in a world in which many individuals can wield magic, but men who attempt it are doomed to madness and hunted down by the all-female Aes Sedai. The prophesied savior known as the Dragon has been reborn, but he is as likely to break the world as he is to save it.

Although some readers have objected to changes made to The Wheel of Time in its adaptation, overall reactions have been positive, drawing in viewers with little or no knowledge of the books and adding unexpected twists for those familiar with the story. As the first season of The Wheel of Time integrated elements of the story from beyond the first book in the series, it's likely that both the second and third seasons will follow suit.

All eight episodes of Season 1 of The Wheel of Time are now available to stream on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
