The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins confirmed the Prime Video series' second season will more fully explore a polyamorous relationship introduced in Season 1.

Judkins revealed that Season 2 will unpack the romantic dynamic between Aes Sedai Alanna Movani and her Warders Ihvon and Maksim in greater detail during a virtual panel at JordanCon 2022. "You see a lot more, actually, in Season 2 of one of those [polyamorous] relationships -- the Alanna, Maksim and Ihvon relationship," he said. "We get to delve into more of that and understand a little bit more how those three parts fit together and how there's not just one relationship happening there, there's three relationships."

Recent reports indicate that The Wheel of Time Season 2 wrapped filming in the Czech Republic in late March 2022. This tracks with a previous leak which revealed that a castle in Prague was doubling for the Royal Palace of Andor. The same inside sources that said principal photography was finished also claimed that The Wheel of Time's second unit finished shooting in Morocco at roughly the same time. This suggests that the show's second season is now in post-production and inching closer to release, although Prime Video is still yet to announce the Season 2 premiere date.

Several new cast members will appear in The Wheel of Time Season 2 when it does finally arrive. Of these newcomers, arguably the most high-profile is Killing Eve star Ayoola Smart, who will portray Aviendha. She's joined by Justice League's Julian Lewis Jones, who will play gruff ship captain Bayle Domon, a key supporting character in Robert Jordan's original novels. Other major roles that have apparently been filled include Elyas Machera, with Gary Beadle reportedly cast to bring the famed Wolf-Brother to life in the epic fantasy series' second season.

Unsurprisingly, Season 2 also has plans to further develop its existing character roster. A notable example of this is the arc in store for Liandrin Guirale, which actor Kate Fleetwood hinted would expose the Aes Sedai's true nature. "[T]here's a deeper and a darker side to Liandrin, but also her own personal backstory I've really been able to immerse myself in the second season which has been a real gift... there's definitely some surprises in store in Season 2," she teased.

The complete Wheel of Time Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
