Meera Syal, who has long been confirmed for the cast of The Wheel of Time Season 2 in a mystery role, is now known to be playing Verin Sedai.The news about Syal's part was shared by Nerdist on Friday, May 12, in a post which was retweeted by the official Twitter for The Wheel of Time. Syal's casting for a recurring role was first revealed in October 2021, during The Wheel of Time's panel at New York Comic Con. In The Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, Verin Mathwin is an important character affiliated with the White Tower. An Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah and a keeper of secrets, she is significantly older than most other characters, and seen as highly knowledgeable but somewhat absent-minded. In the books' overarching plot, Verin is the first notable representative of the Brown Ajah, the sect of Aes Sedai who devote their lives to studying and learning.

Since Syal was cast as an undisclosed character for The Wheel of Time, Verin has been a popular theory among fans. Her previous credits include Netflix's The Sandman, in which she played Erica, an ally of Joanna Constantine and original character based on Rick the Vic of DC Comics. Syal also had an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange.

The Wheel of Time, created by Rafe Judkins and featuring a large ensemble cast, premiered on Prime Video in 2021. In the first season, five young villagers journey away from their home in search of answers about which of them is the Dragon Reborn, fated to either save or destroy the world. Season 2 has wrapped and Season 3 has been greenlit and recently began filming in Prague.

Season 1 of The Wheel of Time is streaming now on Prime Video. At this time a release window for Season 2 has not yet been announced, although announcements such as Syal's casting have been gaining momentum.
