Amazon Prime's epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time has announced the casting of several significant characters for its first season. These include the eagerly anticipated Min Farshaw, but also two Aes Sedai who were introduced in the second book of the source material, suggesting that certain events will take place earlier in the TV adaptation.

Min will be played by Kae Alexander, who appeared in the sixth season of Game of Thrones as Leaf, a mysterious elf-like Child of the Forest. Alexander is also known for her roles in Fleabag, Krypton and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

In the books, Min has a visionary ability of unknown origins which lets her make accurate if unreliable predictions of the future. Her relationships with other characters, particularly Rand al'Thor, lead her deeper into the plot and its worldwide conflict.

Sophie Okonedo has been cast as Siuan Sanche, better known as the Amyrlin Seat, who leads the powerful magic-wielding Aes Sedai. Okonedo's credits include 2019's Hellboy and After Earth, and she was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in 2004's Hotel Rwanda.

Also joining the cast are Clare Perkins of EastEnders and Finnish actor Peter Franzen of Vikings. They will portray the Aes Sedai Kerene Nagashi and her Warder Stepin, respectively.

Finally, the role of Liandrin Guirale Sedai will be played by Kate Fleetwood. The character of Liandrin, like Siuan, does not appear in the first book of the series, but attains great importance later. Fleetwood is known for her roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and 2012's Les Miserables.

First published in 1990, Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time fantasy series consists of fourteen novels, the final three of which were co-written by Brandon Sanderson following Jordan's death in 2007. The series, which follows a group of young villagers coming to terms with their own powers while being drawn into a worldwide conflict, is set in a world in which only women can wield the magical One Power without losing their sanity. It became a cornerstone of modern epic fantasy, known for its unique worldbuilding and expansive scope.

Executive produced and written by Rafe Judkins, The Wheel of Time also stars Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, Madeleine Madden, Daniel Henney, Daryl McCormack, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Izuka Hoyle, Abdul Salis and Michael McElhatton. A premiere date has not been announced by Amazon at this time.
