Joss Whedon's "S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot has rounded out its central cast with the addition of "Nashville" actress Chloe Bennett, The Live Feed reports. She'll play Skye, a smart, caring and unflappable woman who's somewhat obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it.

Targeted for ABC's fall 2013 lineup, the proposed series centers on the global espionage and law-enforcement agency that's helped to provide the connective tissue between the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whedon will direct the pilot he co-wrote with his brother Jed Whedon and Jed's wife Maurissa Tancharoen, who will serve as showrunners as well as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias") and Marvel Television's Jeph Loeb.

Bennett is the sixth and final series regular, joining Clark Gregg as fan-favorite Agent Coulson, Ming-Na as Agent Melina May, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz and Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward. The 21-year-old actress has a recurring role as record-company assistant Hailey on ABC's country-music drama "Nashville."

Filming of the "S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot is expected to begin in mid-January in Los Angeles.
