When it was announced that joss Whedon was taking over the direction on Warner Bros. Justice League in the wake of Zack Snyder stepping away to cope with the death of his daughter, he wasn't coming into the project cold. Though it was revealed as part of the initial announcement, many fans likely missed that Whedon had already been working on the film, helping Snyder craft specific scenes ahead of the movie's planned reshoots.RELATED: Justice League: Warner Bros. Offers Close Looks at Team’s Costumes“The directing is minimal and it has to adhere to the style and tone and the template that Zack set,” Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich explained at the time. “We’re not introducing any new characters. It’s the same characters in some new scenes. He’s handing a baton to Joss but the course has really been set by Zack. I still believe that despite this tragedy, we’ll still end up with a great movie.”Now, producer Charles Roven has weighed in on the directorial change, reiterating that while Snyder is no longer actively involved in the film's production, Whedon will be following the path both men worked on side by side."We were saddened by the events that caused Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder to have to leave and turn the reins over to Joss Whedon," Roven said in a short interview with Variety. "He was already working with us on some of the scenes for the additional photography that we're gonna be doing shortly, and it was fortunate that -- Zack convinced him, and he agreed to step in and finish the movie, help Zack finish his vision, and we're excited about that."

Though the reshoots were initially rumored to be part of an effort to "save" the film, Roven assured fans that this is not the case. Rather, the reshoots were planned long in advance, in order to help refine Justice League's final cut as well as to accommodate the busy schedules of the ensemble film's numerous stars.

"We’re just in the post-production process," Roven explained. "I think it’s pretty common knowledge that we’re going to be doing some additional photography. The complications of trying to, you know—Henry [Cavill]’s on Mission: Impossible, and our Aquaman is making Aquaman, Amy [Adams]’s doing Sharper Objects [sic]—so everybody’s busy, and it’s that crazy Rubix cube of trying to find a way of getting everybody in the place to do the work that we need to do. Which is not that vast, the amount of work that we have to do, but it’s still really complicated that everybody’s in different places around the world.”

Set to debut in theaters November 17, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
