Christmas is about spending time with family and friends, and it's supposed to be relaxing. However, that rarely happens. Shopping, wrapping, decorating and baking take up way too much time and the holiday often becomes chaotic. Christmas Eve may be the best time to catch your breath. With the stockings hung and the tree decorated, many networks are airing their last or most prominent Christmas-themed shows. Here's a list of what the major TV networks will be showing during primetime on Christmas Eve 2022.

ABC Celebrates Christmas With Home Alone

ABC is the perfect station for Christmas Eve comedy. Primetime kicks off at 8:00 p.m. with a showing of Home Alone. With its themes of acceptance and courage, it's one of the best Christmas movies in history. In fact, people are still finding hidden facts in Home Alone well after its 1990 release. Following the film, the 10:00 p.m. hour will feature an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos.

CBS Repeats Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All

CBS' Christmas Eve will be music-oriented. The network is going with a two-hour holiday concert special called Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All. The concert featuring the "Queen of Christmas" originally aired the Thursday before Christmas and CBS is giving it a second broadcast to help ring in the season. After the special ends, the channel reverts back to its normal programming with an episode of 48 Hours.

NBC Sticks With It's a Wonderful Life

NBC has its own holiday tradition of broadcasting the 1946 classic It's a Wonderful Life. The network will once again show the Jimmy Stewart film starting at 8:00 p.m. Stewart stars as George Bailey, who is contemplating suicide on Christmas Eve 1945 before a guardian angel (played by Henry Travers) shows him how things would've happened without him. The movie was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

FOX Repeats LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular

FOX will be airing its own Christmas special -- at least the end of it. LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular featured Robin Thicke, Finesse Mitchell, Leslie Jordan and Cheryl Hines competing alongside past LEGO Masters contestants. On Christmas Eve, Fox will repeat the last of the three two-hour episodes, which revealed the winning celebrity. The rebroadcast starts at 8:00 p.m. followed by local news at 10:00 p.m.

Freeform Brings Back The Santa Clause

Freeform isn't a major broadcast network, but it's known for its "25 Days of Christmas" programming so it's worth including. The cable network has devoted Christmas Eve to Santa Claus himself. The Santa Clause starts at 7:30 p.m. Starring Tim Allen as the man in red, it's a new contender for best Christmas movie of all time, especially since its most glaring plot hole has been cleared up. After the first film ends, Freeform follows it with The Santa Clause 2.
