Fans were a little concerned when Disney gained control of both Marvel and Star Wars. Would these movies rub off on each other too much? In the case of Avengers: Infinity War, only in a good way -- that blockbuster movie delivered a better cliffhanger than we have had since Empire Strikes Back. After all, Thanos had won. He gained all of the Infinity Stones as well as the Infinity Gauntlet, and with a simple snap of his fingers, he erased half of the universe from existence. That included many of our favorite characters, leaving fans absolutely distraught. Naturally, this led to questions galore about the next movie. What would it be called? Who would be in it? Would all our favorite heroes be resurrected, or will they stay in some snap-induced oblivion? At this moment, fans were a bit like Thanos -- willing to tear the universe apart to get the answers they wanted!

Of course, we wouldn’t want you tearing the universe apart. That’s where we keep all our stuff! Which is why we decided to be a booster and put together a comprehensive guide to everything we already know about Avengers 4. There is a side effect, though: after reading this, you’ll be more pumped for the next movie than ever before! Because we’ve got the skinny, True Believers. We think we know who is coming back, we may know who is going away forever... and we might even know what the title is. Ready to check it out?

15 ENTER THE HAWKEYE

Hawkeye-Civil-War

Avengers: Infinity War felt a lot like an Avengers reunion, gathering most of the familiar faces as well as introducing them to new allies. However, Hawkeye’s absence was very notable, so just where was everyone’s favorite archer? We’ve got some good news, though -- he’s definitely in Avengers 4.

There had already been some pretty explicit hints from the film’s directors, and leaked photos actually show Jeremy Renner on set and rocking an all-black costume. This has fueled speculation that he may be rocking a new identity (Ronin, anyone?), but we’re just happy we’ll be seeing him again, even if it’s possibly for the last time.

14 CAPTAIN MARVEL ARRIVES

Avengers Infinity War Captain Marvel

Many of these things we already know came from investigation, such as actor interviews, leaked set photos, and so on. Every now and then, though, what’s going to be in the next movie is spelled out by the previous movie. That’s the case for this next tidbit: Captain Marvel will be in Avengers 4.

Assuming you stuck around for the post-credits sequence of Infinity War, you saw Nick Fury fiddling with a device to contact someone for help before he disappeared. The symbol that popped up was Captain Marvel’s, and we’re going to learn a lot more about her from the upcoming solo movie. We’re pretty hyped to see her dynamic with the Avengers and Guardians!

13 THE ANT-MAN COMETH

Ant Man and Wasp cameo header

Like Hawkeye, Ant-Man was pretty conspicuously absent from Avengers: Infinity War. Fans assumed we’d see him in Avengers 4, but the post-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp showed that he was stuck in the Quantum Realm while his friends disappeared. The credits even teased whether he would return with a question mark.

It was, however, just a tease. Leaked set photos confirm that Ant-Man will be in the next movie, chatting it up with the Avengers. In all fairness, it could be some kind of flashback… but fan speculation is high than Ant-Man could be hopping dimensions or even through time in order to help undo the events of the Thanos snap.

12 RELEASE DATE

Some fans really enjoy counting down to big events. In that case, this will make your day: we know that Avengers 4 is going to come out in America on May 3rd, 2019, almost exactly one year after Avengers: Infinity War. Of course, if you live on the other side of the pond, you can see it earlier.

Once more, England will be getting that MCU goodness earlier than America. Over in the UK, Avengers 4 is going to come out on April 26th, 2019. That means there will be about a week where fans will have to be extra vigilant about avoiding spoilers (or you can dive right in -- whatever floats your boat).

11 WASP-Y WOMAN

Wasp Evangeline Lilly

In the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp, things look even more dire for Wasp than Ant-Man. While he was “only” stuck in the Quantum Realm, we seem to get a visual confirmation that the Thanos snap turned her into dust. So, what’s the deal? Could she somehow be in Avengers 4?

In a word: yes! Evangeline Lilly has previously confirmed her appearance in the movie, and has more recently hinted that she could team up with Captain Marvel. Fans can only wonder what this means -- whether she actually did escape the snap or whether someone (Ant-Man, maybe?) finds a way to rescue her in time for some team-ups.

10 NO MORE NEGOTIATIONS

Most fans take it as a given that the good guys will defeat Thanos and that most of the good guys he has destroyed will be brought back to life. That still leaves us with a juicy question: who is not going to make it out of the next movie alive? The answer to that is all about contracts.

The likeliest event is that the characters played by actors at the end of their contract will either perish or retire. This includes Robert Downey, Jr and Chris Evans (the latter of which has confirmed this will be his last Marvel movie). Contract details are murkier for other actors, but this could be the last hurrah for Chris Hemsworth unless he signs a new deal.

9 RETURNING HEROES

A big topic of discussion after the shocking conclusion of Infinity War is, of course, who all is coming back or, better yet, who will return from oblivion, and which heroes are going to help defeat Thanos to save the universe? While there’s only a few we can confirm return from oblivion (more on this later), we’ve got more certainty on who will fight Thanos.

In short: everyone who survived the snap. The two movies were actually filmed concurrently, with the idea of getting as much done with each actor while they are on set. So, while they might perish in the attempt, we’re guaranteed to see Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Rocket, and Black Widow as well as some of their surviving allies.

8 WHAT’S NEXT?

The X-Men pose beside a fire

Another major question regarding Avengers 4 is simply this: “what comes next?” Since it is a given that we will be losing many of our favorite veteran characters, then fans of the MCU must wonder what we’ll see in the next ten years.

We actually know a little about this already. After a tumultuous legal battle, Disney began the merger process with 20th Century Fox. Later on, we are bound to see MCU versions of beloved characters like X-Men and Fantastic Four (which MCU execs have already discussed informally). Beyond this, we know the MCU slate will look very different, being headlined by characters like Captain Marvel and Black Panther rather than Iron Man and Captain America.

7 HELLO, HAPPY

MCU Happy Hogan

Happy Hogan has been an MCU cornerstone for many years. First, he serves as an aid to Tony Stark, who is going to have a more important role than ever before in defeating Thanos. And Hogan is portrayed by Jon Favreau, who ushered in the MCU by directing the first Iron Man movie.

The actor and director is a bit chatty, though, and he already revealed that his character will be in Avengers 4. While we don’t know what he’ll be doing or how prominent the role is, we’re excited at the idea of him meeting some Avengers...especially the potential for an awkward Black Widow reunion!

6 MORE WIDOW TO COME

Black Widow - Infinity War

Scarlett Johansson is an Avengers veteran, but many have wondered about her contract expiring. She’s been cagier about it than some of her co-stars, leading many fans to wonder: will Avengers 4 be her final time as this iconic character? As it turns out, not at all!

After years of fan demand, Marvel Studios finally claimed that they were working on a standalone Black Widow movie. It doesn’t have a specific release date or too many details, but it being planned means we’ll get more Widow after Avengers 4. Then again, it could be a prequel movie, so we cannot guarantee her character’s long-term survival!

5 ADIOS, HANK

Hank Pym has been an interesting “X” factor in the MCU. The first Ant-Man movie established he has major history both working with S.H.I.E.L.D. and working with super-tech on his own. Because of this, many fans wondered if he might help out in the fight against Thanos.

The answer? Nope! The post-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp show that the character has disappeared in the Thanos snap. While we are confident we’ll see him again, it looks like he has been definitively sidelined for the big battle against Thanos. Too bad -- we’d love to see him rooting around inside the Mad Titan's brain!

4 STRANGE MAGIC

Doctor Strange was one of the more alarming deaths in Avengers: Infinity War. Given his mystic insight, he seemed like one of the few characters who really knew what was going on in the movie. Fans are understandably curious, then, if we’re going to see our Master of the Mystic Arts anytime soon!

Well, if you’re a fan of Strange, you’re in luck because he's another character who has another film scheduled. Since a prequel movie would mean no actual magic, we’re confident that it will be a sequel, meaning that Doctor Strange will return from the oblivion that came from the Thanos snap.

3 THE RETURN OF THE MONSTER

Maybe the most surprising thing about Avengers: Infinity War was the relative lack of the Hulk. Oh, there was plenty of Bruce Banner, but after “the other guy” gets his ass kicked at the beginning of the movie, Banner can’t coax him back out. Fans are curious, then: is Hulk coming back?

The answer is a resounding yes. In a previous interview, Mark Ruffalo claimed that Avengers 4 would be the conclusion of a three-part Hulk story that started back in Thor: Ragnarok. It can hardly wrap Hulk’s story with no Hulk, so he’ll be back. And Ruffalo has been open about having a six-movie contract, meaning there’s even room for one more MCU movie after this one!

2 THE TITLE... MAYBE

infinity war mark ruffalo

This next one is more of a “rumor” than something we know for sure and one that has been floating around the ether for some time. On the bright side, it’s one of the strongest Marvel rumors ever! What’s the rumor? That Avengers 4 has an actual name… Avengers: Endgame.

We know what you’re thinking: sure, this ties in to what Doctor Strange told Tony Stark, but where’s the proof? Apparently, veteran MCU cinematographer added a film credit to his website, and that credit said Avengers: Endgame. Could it be a working title? Maybe, but we hope he wouldn't risk his career just to mislead some fans!

1 HERE’S SPIDEY!

Considering most of them instantly blinked out of existence, seeing people perish in the Thanos snap was more surprising than sad. The exception was Spider-Man, whose spidey sense let him feel what was coming. This gave us the heartbreaking (but meme-worthy) “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good” line of dialogue.

Don’t worry, though: that won’t be the last you’ll see of him! As with some of the other characters, we know he is returning because another Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which he battles Mysterio. Throw in his rumored appearance in the Venom movie, and you’ll have your favorite webhead back before you know it!
