FX's television adaptation of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's cult classic vampire comedy, What We Do in the Shadows, is officially getting a second season.

Ahead of the first season finale airing on May 29, the network announced the series' renewal for a second season to premiere some time next year. For its inaugural season, the adaptation currently ranks among the top five cable comedies this year, averaging 2.81 million viewers per episode.

"Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and Paul Simms have more than delivered on the high expectations of Shadows fans by adapting the cult classic for television and building a passionate base of new and returning fans," declared FX Networks President of Original Programming Nick Grad in a written statement to Deadline. "We also want to thank the rest of the creative team, including Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush, and the incredible cast and crew for delivering such a fun and original series, and we look forward to working with them all on season two.”

The series continues to the faux-documentary approach of the original film following a group of centuries-old vampires that move into Staten Island with plans to conquer the borough with comedic results.

Airing Wednesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on FX, What We Do in the Shadows stars Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Matt Berry, Harvey Guillen and Doug Jones. Taika Waititi directs the series and co-produces alongside Jemaine Clement, Scott Rudin, Paul Simms and Garrett Basch.
