Paul Simms, executive producer for FX's What We Do in the Shadows, revealed that one episode of Season 4 will feature the "most ambitious" depiction of supernatural creatures the show has created thus far.

Ahead of its Season 3 premiere, FX announced What We Do in the Shadows was renewed for a fourth season, which is expected to hit the network in fall of 2022. Season 4 of the vampire mockumentary has already entered production, granting Simms and the rest of the team the chance to answer a few questions about upcoming episodes at New York Comic Con 2021. When a fan asked about the prospect of adding more mythological creatures into the show, such as the werewolves of previous episodes, Simms told them to look forward to one Season 4 episode in particular.

"There is an episode that we will be shooting in Season 4 that Yana [Gorskaya]'s directing, that is probably the most ambitious episode we've done as far as seeing the other creatures of the supernatural world," Simms responded. "So, you're gonna have to wait a little while for that, but it's gonna be amazing."

What We Do in the Shadows has steadily introduced a myriad of mythical creatures as it follows the journeys of its vampire protagonists. While Simms didn't reveal which (or how many) paranormal cryptids to expect in Season 4, he did confirm that series regular Yana Gorskaya has returned to direct. Gorskaya was responsible for directing the Season 2 episodes "On The Run" and "Collaboration." She also directed six of the 10 episodes of Season 3, including the ones that introduced the show's newest mythological creatures.

During its third season, What We Do in the Shadows viewers met the Watchers -- a pair of chatty animated gargoyles -- and Sheila, a siren who turned out to be half-woman, half-chicken. The vampires also found themselves re-igniting their rivalry with the werewolves, with whom they have feuded since Season 1, and one episode revisited the ghost of Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) as it pondered its quality of life as a creepy porcelain doll.

Simms previously hinted at what else is coming in the next season of the Emmy-nominated comedy-horror series. In one recent interview, Simms revealed Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows will see Nandor (Kayvan Novak) "finally finding love" after spending most of his Season 3 story arc searching for it. The producer also said fans can look forward to seeing more of the Vampiric Council, which is set to play "a big role" in Season 4.

New episodes of What We Do in the Shadows air Thursdays on FX and stream Fridays via Hulu.
