Fans of the Marvel Universe have encountered the ultimate witness known as Uatu the Watcher, who frequently appears during epic moments to observe the consequences but (almost) never act. The Watchers follow a strict code of non-involvement, though Uatu has broken that oath hundreds of times over the years in various ways.

The character was also the narrator of the celebrated What If...? comic series that was recently adapted in the MCU, which showcased a new version of Uatu that was forced to defend himself from a deadly new threat. Uatu displayed incredibly powerful abilities, which has inspired us to take a look at a few of his strongest feats from the comics that prove Marvel's Watcher is no joke.

10 The Watcher Killed A Deadly Alien Puppy Monster By Chewing It To Death

While Uatu and the Watcher's are tasked with observing the existence of others, it's not always a job they enjoy. Uatu has personally revealed that one of the challenges he faces is having to observe Marvel's Merc-With-A-Mouth, Deadpool. After Uatu was stuck in an elevator with Deadpool, he followed him on his mission to take out what appeared to be a cute little puppy.

Uatu decided to break his rule of non-interference and stop Deadpool from killing the puppy by delivering a beating on Deadpool. However, the puppy revealed itself as an alien monster when it bit Uatu, causing him to change his tune and bite the monster back, brutally killing it. Deadpool promised to keep Uatu's vow-breaking secret as long as the Watcher stopped watching him.

9 Fought Off Villains And Mindless Ones Before He Was Murdered By Nick Fury

During 2014's Original Sin storyline, the heroes of the Marvel Universe were called to the Blue Area of the Moon only to discover the deceased body of Uatu the Watcher, whose all-seeing eyes had been stolen from his corpse. The heroes' investigation eventually revealed that The Watcher had been forced to defend himself from an attack by powerful villains and an army of Mindless Ones.

He effortlessly held off their attacks, though he was distracted after witnessing his future death and blinded by one of his own powerful alien weapons. It was then revealed that Uatu had been killed by Nick Fury using his advanced "Man on the Wall" technology, though he would later return following the Empyre event.

8 Uatu Transported Space Pirates To A Far World To Protect His Home Planet

While he is sworn to an oath of non-interference, Uatu the Watcher has found a number of loopholes over the years. Tales of Suspense #57 followed Uatu as he observed a group of aliens called Rajaks who worked as space pirates. They planned to attack an unknown planet that was identified as Planet T-37X that was rich in resources for them to loot and plunder.

Uatu surprisingly intercepted the pirates and mentally transported them to a harsh planet on the other side of the universe. Uatu revealed that Planet T-37X was actually the homeworld of The Watchers, which Uatu was free to protect with his abilities regardless of his oath.

7 Sent The Red Ghost To Different Eras Across Time To Show His Power

Uatu the Watcher's first appearance in the comics was in Fantastic Four #13 when he chose to reveal themselves to the FF after they encountered their Russian counterparts, Red Ghost and his Super Apes on the Blue Area of the Moon.

Uatu easily health with the Red Ghost by sending him to the other-dimensional Limbo, backward in time to the prehistoric era and then the far future before exiling him from his citadel. This kicked off Red Ghost's numerous attempts to steal the Watcher's technology over the years, despite the Watcher's display of power during their first meeting.

6 He Turned An Intergalactic Gambler Into A Casino Playing Card As Punishment

1988's Web of Spider-Man #34 introduced an alien gambler and scavenger named A'Sai who happened upon a piece of Galactus' Worldship that contained a powerful alien weapon. He used the weapon to capture the Watcher in order to win a bet with an ally. When he demanded more tech and weapons from Uatu, the Watcher decided to make a bet of his own.

A child's football game on Earth would settle their wager, which also included Spider-Man on one of the teams. While A'Sai attempted to cheat, Spider-Man and his team were able to win for the Watcher. Uatu then transformed A'Sai into a playing card and placed him in a casino on Earth as his punishment, which was the Watcher's form of mercy.

5 The Watcher Beat Captain Mar-Vell Nearly To Death In A Jealous Misguided Rage

Years of observing Earth coupled with the frustration of his non-interference oath eventually caused a break in Uatu's sanity when he became jealous over Captain Mar-Vell's appointment as the Protector of the Universe.

Uatu entered into battle with Captain Marvel, physically beating him before turning him over to his newfound allies in the Kree Lunatic Legion. When offered the killing blow, Uatu refused and declared himself unworthy, kicking off a trial with the other Watchers that resulted in his promise to never again involve himself with humanity.

4 Uatu Kept Marvel's 1602 Reality Safe Inside Himself After Saving The Multiverse

Neil Gaiman created his own version of the Marvel universe in 2003 called Marvel 1602 that saw the Age of Heroes begin hundreds of years earlier due to a temporal anomaly. Uatu was forced to break his oath yet again in order to instruct that era's Doctor Strange on how to undo the anomaly and fix the timestream.

While he was questioned for his role in the events by the Watcher's High Tribunal, he was gifted with the surviving 1602 universe that he kept safe within his heart, alongside other potential universes that he appeared to also be protecting.

3 The Watcher Trapped The Sentry In A Time Loop To Stop The Spread Of Marvel Zombies

The Marvel Zombies reality saw a world overcome with a mysterious zombie plague that was eventually revealed to have come from yet another universe, thanks to an infected version of The Sentry who acted as the carrier. Marvel Zombies Return featured yet another alternate Earth that was ravaged by the zombie virus as the original Marvel Zombie tried to spread to the multiverse.

It was that Earth's zombified Sentry who was revealed to have carried the plague to the more well-known zombified reality. That reality's Uatu realized he couldn't stop what had happened, but he could stop it from spreading. He trapped The Sentry into a time loop so that the zombie plague would burn itself out in the two realities, though they have reappeared since.

2 Uatu Killed Aron The Rogue Watcher And Used His Energy To Revive The One

Uatu began training his nephew Aron so he could join the fraternity of Watchers, though the youthful being was inspired by his uncle's many instances of involvement and chose to break the code as well. Aron became a Rogue Watcher and disguised himself as Uatu in order to manipulate Earth's heroes and even made clones of the Fantastic Four so he could relive their earliest adventures.

After teaming up with an evil alternate Reed Richards known as the Dark Raider, Uatu was forced into battle against the Rogue Watcher. He killed his nephew and turned him into energy that he hoped would revive The One, the Watcher who contained all of his brethren's collected knowledge.

1 Uatu Has Faced Off Against Galactus The World Devourer To Defend The Planet Earth

He would show up a few more times to warn the Fantastic Four of impending doom while dealing with the Molecule Man before he later attempted to hide Earth from the coming arrival of Silver Surfer and the World Devourer, Galactus. He attempted to camouflage the entire Earth as a destroyed planet to deter Galactus before he attempted to reason with him.

However, What If...? #41 explored a world where the Fantastic Four perished during their first cosmic flight, which saw the Avengers fail to stop Galactus. Uatu then intervened and fought against Galactus in a devastating battle that ultimately ended with the Watcher's death. Galactus then spared the Earth to honor his fallen foe, but it still served as a powerful display of Uatu's abilities.
