Marvel released a new clip from What If...? showcasing Peggy Carter's transformation into Captain Britain.
The clip was revealed during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival panel, A Fireside Chat with... Victoria Alonso, hosted by Women in Animation. At the start of the clip, a Hydra agent shoots Chester Philips just as Steve Rogers is about to take the super-serum. Still-scrawny-Steve leaps out of the machine to stand up against the agent, getting shot multiple times. Next, the agent grabs a vial of super-serum, but Carter kills him.
Steve's alive but in no shape to take the serum, and Howard Stark says time there's no time to wait or else the serum is going to go to waste. Another soldier tries to convince Stark to take it, but he refuses. This ultimately leads to Peggy going into the machine herself, with the soldier disapproving of her actions but Stark going along with them. Peggy then comes out super-buff and asking, "Did it work?" to which Stark retorts, "And then some! You won't be needing those heels anymore." Steve's response is simply "Wow."
The clip ends with an action sequence of Carter leaping out of a forest, infiltrating a castle and knocking out a bunch of enemy soldiers with her Vibranium Captain Britain shield. "Where have you been all my life?" she quips while holding her new weapon.
Alonso, the Guest of Honor for the Fireside Chat, is the Executive Vice President of Production at Marvel Studios. The panel is viewable through June 19 for those who've purchased a festival pass, but the clip has yet to be released outside of the panel and recordings or screenshots are strictly prohibited. The clip starts roughly 11 minutes and 45 seconds into the panel.
What If...? is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first animated series. Each episode will explore a different alternate reality, each diverging from the main MCU continuity. Uatu the Watcher is the program's host, voiced by Jeffrey Wright. In addition to the Captain Britain episode, other reported episodes include Gamora hunting Iron Man and Thor never coming to Earth.
