After a run of dark episodes, this week's What If...? will be much more lighthearted thanks to a bunch of Marvel cameos and Easter eggs.

The creators of the Marvel animated series spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Wednesday's episode, "What If... Thor Was an Only Child?," which will see the God of Thunder become the God of Parties in a reality where Odin doesn't adopt Loki.

Head writer A.C. Bradley said "this episode is chock full of cameos" thanks to it being after the previous episodes of the show, which convinced the various MCU actors that the process was an enjoyable one. "A lot of the lines are improvised by the actors," she added. "It should be Easter egg heaven."

A clip from the new What If...? teased as much, cramming Jane Foster, the Grandmaster and Topaz, and a bunch of Skrulls all into one scene. All told, it'll make for a much more joyful episode than in recent weeks.

"I hope people have fun with the one this week because it's not as bombastic world-ending as other episodes," Bradley continued. "The mandate for me when I was writing it was, I just want to have fun, I just want to be silly. It's a lot sillier than anything you'd see in the MCU. It should be an episode to watch with a beer."

A number of MCU actors have returned for What If...?, and the latest episode is no different, with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Thor.

"He ate it up," Andrews said of Hemsworth's voice acting work. "We started finding the voice and Chris has got such natural comic instincts — they've started bringing that out in Ragnarok but we got to lean into that even more so in this. There's some stuff that got particularly goofy and he was laughing and the guys in the recording booth over there in Australia were laughing, and he was just like, 'I really like this Thor!' He gets to cut loose more than he ever has in the Marvel Universe. I get a sense that maybe there's a little bit of actual Chris in 'Party Thor' which might be one reason why he gravitated towards it so easily and had so much fun with it."

While all of the cameos haven't been revealed, Bradley did share that Seth Green will return as Howard the Duck -- and she told an embarrassing story to go along with the news.

"Seth Green [makes a] cameo and he came in to record as Howard the Duck," Bradley said. "I was walking him through the episode like, 'It's really fun and zany and it's kind of like a throwback to Can't Hardly Wait.' And the man very politely nodded and went, 'Yeah, I've seen it.' And it wasn't until the drive home that I was like, 'Oh frick, he was in it! I just pitched him his own movie.'"
