Concept art from Marvel's upcoming What If...? series shows Miles Morales sporting a unique ensemble that calls back to his time as Spider-Man.

Starting in March, What If... Miles Morales puts a new spin on the Spider-Verse star as he swaps out his signature webs for the wardrobes of other superheroes. For the book's debut issue by writer Cody Ziglar and artist Paco Medina, Miles will become Captain America, with a slick suit that calls back to Alex Ross' design. Now, a variant cover for the series by artist Iban Coello casts the would-be Cap in a different light, with a bodysuit that ties back to Miles' time as Spider-Man. The "Design Variant Cover" shows Miles in a suit similar to his most iconic look, with all of the black elements replaced with blue. Additionally, the pitched costume retains the vertical red and white stripes that are common on many Captain America costumes, and Spider-Man's large white lens.

Each issue of What If... Miles Morales will introduce readers to new worlds through the eyes of distinct creative teams, exploring the consistent qualities that make Miles a hero under different circumstances. Ziglar, who previously explored Marvel's multiverse in Heroes Reborn: Siege Society, calls the opportunity to cast Miles as Captain America a dream come true. "Simply can't wait for folks to see our boy Miles yeet that shield and how he handles the mantle of Captain America."

Though Miles' counterparts will dazzle readers with their distinct duds, the original hero just updated his own threads in the pages of Miles Morales: Spider-Man. Unfortunately, after the Beyond Corporation filed a copyright claim to the name Spider-Man, the hero was legally forced to relinquish the mantle. In response, Miles confronted Spider-Man Beyond, the company's official representative. Miles quickly deduced that though this Spider-Man was similar to Peter Parker, it was a Spider-impostor.

Outside of Miles' world, a different side of the Spider-Verse will be explored in Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse. Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Jodi Nishijima, the book pairs Ghost-Spider with her duplicates from across time and space. Marvel will also be producing a line of variant covers casting Gwen as different X-Men throughout February to celebrate the occasion.
