WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of What If...?, streaming now on Disney+.

What If...? Season 1 is complete, but the next batch of episodes will include the teased story of Gamora and Tony Stark.

In yesterdays' season finale, "What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?," the titular observer plucks various characters from the multiverse -- and past episodes of the show -- to fight Ultron Vision. But while most of the eventual Guardians of the Multiverse were familiar faces, the Watcher also pops into a reality where Gamora defeated Thanos alongside Tony Stark. The rest of the episodes teases that unknown story, but head writer A.C. Bradley said the full thing will be revealed.

"What happened with the Gamora episode, there was originally supposed to be — early on in the season — a Tony and Gamora-centric episode. However, due to COVID and production delays, one of our amazing, amazing animation houses around the globe got hit pretty hard by the pandemic," Bradley told ComicBook.com. "And we were left with two choices: push the entire season to later this year, or push this one episode to Season 2. We made the choice to push that episode to Season 2, and hoped that seeing Gamora in the finale serves as a teaser for what is to come."

The details confirm what was previously teased: that the running theme of Tony dying in various What If...? episodes wasn't always the plan. It seems in one, he was victorious, thanks to a bulky new suit of armor and Gamora defeating her father and taking his armor. The pair also seemingly devise a way to destroy Infinity Stones, as seen in the Season 1 finale.

"In Season 2, it'll almost be like a little bit of a prequel, we'll see how Tony and Gamora became friends because those two don't even interact in the main MCU universe," Bradley continued. "Given all the upheaval that we've been through in the past two years, pushing an episode is nothing, and we completely understand. Our animation houses have been absolute rock stars in pulling off this show."

Gamora and Tony won't be the only ones back for Season 2, as Captain Carter's return has also been teased. And of course, the Watcher will be back at his post, observing and only occasionally interfering.

Season 1 of What If...? is now streaming on Disney+.
