If there’s one thing that this week’s season premieres taught me, it’s that I’m sick and tired of shows being meta. But what other trends are popping up a little too much? What should we beg for a ban on?
Maybe I’m just overly sensitive, but I couldn’t help but notice that both Chuck and Community had moments of “This isn’t a TV show – It’s real life!” during their season premieres this week that… well, just annoyed, because they were so self-consciously unrealistic. It made me think that there’s a lot of odd repetition so far in this year’s television: Both Bones and Castle had the lead couples meet up awkwardly after some time apart, and between the aforementioned Chuck, the just-finished Covert Affairs and the brand new Undercovers, any itch I’ve had for “spying is just like real life, honest!” metaphors has been scratched away entirely. But enough about me: what kind of television familiarity could you do with less of? Spill all in the comments below.
