In Comic Book Easter Eggs, I share with you comic book related “easter eggs.” An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy!
Reader Mickey G. wrote in to suggest an amusing collection of easter eggs from a 2010 issue of “New Mutants”. I had mentioned this when it happened in Comic Book Legends Revealed, but I guess I might as well feature it here, as well!
In “New Mutants” #17 (by Zeb Wells and Leonard Kirk), Cannonball’s branch of the X-Men consisting of former members of the New Mutants (Cyclops let him pick his own team of X-Men and he chose his old teammates) were called into Limbo by their teammate, Magik.
During the issue, there are a bunch of demons working with Magik and they are speaking a demonic language that Cypher (the New Mutant member who can translate any language) translated a couple of times. Robert Plass of Alpha Flight Collector managed to use the translations to form a translation guide.
Using said guide, he came up with some translations of the non-translated stuff and they’re pretty surprising (and hilarious). Check them out…
“See that guy’s balls?” “Yeah…they were weird.”
Hey, they ARE demons, after all, it’s natural that their dialogue might be a bit…colorful!
Thanks to Mickey G. for suggesting I feature this one. Thanks to Robert for the translations!
