WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Westworld Season 3 finale, "Crisis Theory," which aired Sunday on HBO.
Over the course of Westworld's first two seasons, it became clear that Delos had more than one theme park for guests to visit. There was, of course, the titular Western-inspired theme park, but fans quickly found out there were also Shogun World and Raj World, locations that would be visited in Season 2. Then, Season 3 of the series featured the debut of multiple other parks. In the season premiere, the show paid a visit to Warworld, a digital landscape meant to plunge visitors in the World War II-era, before revealing a Game of Thrones-inspired theme park.
That's not all, however. Before the conclusion of its Season 3 finale, Westworld confirms the theme of Delos Park #5 -- and it's function is actually different than the rest of the parks.
The penultimate episode of Westworld's third season ended with the likelihood that Dolores had, perhaps, been permanently killed following her confrontation with Maeve. However, in the opening moments of the finale, it becomes clear that isn't the case. In fact, Caleb has taken her pearl, and he is following instructions that take him to a backup body where he finds another host body for Dolores. After putting her back together and activating her, Dolores wakes up and she reveals the hidden connection between the two of them.
As it turns out, Caleb and Dolores previously met, a long time ago in Delos Park #5. This park represents a real-world experience, and it's different from the rest because it's not used for guests looking for a vacation. Instead, it's an immersive training ground for the military. Because of the realistic nature of the park's environment and the life-like but ultimately disposable hosts, the military has the perfect training location. They can practice rescue operations and they have plenty of target practice without risking any sort of lives in the process.
Through a series of flashbacks, viewers see that Cal trained at Delos Park #5 during his time in the military. It was there that he crossed paths with a version of Dolores who served as one of the innocent civilians inside the park. He saw her only for a brief moment, which would explain why he wouldn't remember her. However, his good nature made an impact on Dolores, and it would become one of the reasons she would ultimately choose him to be humanity's savior.
Season 3 moved the action away from Westworld and the Delos theme parks in general, but the series still managed to tie the story back to them in one form or another. Now, the upcoming Season 4 seems set to move further beyond what fans already know, and there's no telling how much the theme parks will continue to have an impact on the show. But there are still more Delos theme parks to be unveiled, which means the mystery isn't over yet.
