Analysis.

After over a year of remaining offline, Westworld Season 3 will debut on HBO on March 15, 2020, at 9 p.m. EST. HBO made the announcement with the trailer below, which walks viewers through the history of the world of Westworld.

The trailer starts off with recognizable moments in our own timeline, such as the recent unrest in Hong Kong and the impeachment of President Donald Trump. However, following those familiar incidents, the teaser starts listing events that have yet to occur, such as an ecological collapse in Indonesia and a thermonuclear incident in Paris. The text of the voiceover can be found below:

We are in the middle of a war. No one knows it's happened yet or that it's already been lost. For the most part, humanity has been a miserable little band of thugs, stumbling from one catastrophe to the next. Our history, like the ravings of lunatics, kills. But we've changed that. For the first time, history has an author -- a system. And, up until very recently, the system was working. But there is someone we have encountered for. You.

The series will look quite different from its previous two seasons when it returns. Previous trailers indicate that the story will be ditching the parks and start showcasing the outside world. The drama has also gained several new cast members, including Aaron Paul, Vincent Cassel and Michael Ealy. Those looking for a little familiarity, though, have nothing to worry about. Original cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth and more will be back.

Created by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, Westworld stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Simon Quarterman, Rodrigo Santoro, Aaron Paul, Vincent Cassel, Lena Waithe, Scott Mescudi, Marshawn Lynch, John Gallagher Jr., Michael Ealy (“Stumptown”) and Tommy Flanagan. Season 3 premieres on March 15, 2020, at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
