The following contains spoilers for Westworld Season 4, Episode 6, "Fidelity," which premiered Sunday, July 31 on HBO.

Charlotte established her rule efficiently at the beginning of Westworld Season 4. She set a trap for Maeve and Caleb that eliminated her two biggest enemies. This act allowed her to unleash her mind-controlling flies to conquer humanity. Even when Caleb became aware of his fate, everything seemed to be lost.

However, Charlotte has always had one problem through her otherwise flawless rule: her skin. It's been decaying throughout the season, suggesting that Charlotte's a lot more vulnerable than initially assumed. But while this could be construed as a weakness, it may also hint at potential redemption later in Season 4. Could the season's big bad end up with some saving grace?

Charlotte's bleeding hand hints at redemption in Westworld

In Season 4, Episode 6, "Fidelity," Charlotte played a twisted game with the deceased and resurrected Caleb, placing his mind in various bodies to extract information about the rebels. She toyed with the idea of family, parsing through his memories while creating a fake version of his daughter Frankie. It was ironic because Charlotte -- initially created as a Dolores contingency plan -- had also suffered the loss of her family. To sink this low made it seem like she didn't care about anything except power.

She spent the episode trying to figure out why she was losing her control of her humans and why her bots were destroying themselves. She thought Caleb and Maeve infected them, but he revealed that these beings just hated living in Charlotte's false empire. They simply couldn't stand being subservient to her sadistic rule, which truly hurt her. Charlotte killed Caleb again... but her hand began itching and bleeding, and Charlotte refused to use a new body to take care of the problem.

Charlotte's facial expression confirmed she was more broken and pained than before. As insulted as she was by Caleb's words, she was clinging to the past and angry at being viewed as an unwanted leader. However, that display of emotion suggests that Charlotte can still be rationalized with.

Charlotte's bleeding hand hints at redemption in Westworld

With Dolores becoming self-aware, Westworld has given her the perfect opportunity to show Charlotte she's become the very monster she hated. Dolores could remind Charlotte that she made mistakes with her own rebellion at Delos and that she shouldn't have manipulated her own copies. This would allow Charlotte to realize that William turning on her is exactly the same as what she did to Dolores, just to find her freedom and agency.

This realization may inspire Charlotte to relinquish her control over humanity and with Dolores' help, take whatever hosts are left to try and make a place in which they can all coexist. Charlotte would be able to offer the concept of choice for her species again. With all the data she's acquired about her bots and humans, she could help the others create a utopia that would make her family proud. If that's how the rest of Westworld Season 4 goes, Charlotte would go from dictator and monster to leader of a better world -- which is what she's been trying to do all along.

Westworld airs Sundays at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
