Loki, aka the God Of Mischief, technically made his first appearance in Venus #6, a romance comic that followed the adventures of the Greek Goddess Venus. He didn't truly start coming into the Loki that we all know and love until his 1962 appearance in Journey Into Mystery #85. Since then, Loki has tormented and tricked his brother Thor and tested the patience of the Avengers. The Trickster God, played by Tom Hiddleston, has also become very popular in the MCU. He faced off against the Avengers and nearly took over Earth with the help of Thanos and the Chitauri.

Loki has always been cunning and devious. In the comics, he even ran a campaign to become President of the United States, so his ambition is unparalleled! Of course, his efforts are always thwarted before they come to fruition. The God of Mischief has faced tragedy and paid the ultimate price, with his life. In both the comics and the MCU, he tows the line between good and evil, which makes his motives hard to understand, but altogether, he is an engine of pure self-preservation. And yet, when we read him in the comics or watch him the big screen, we still silently root for him. He's just weird and wonderful... and his physical body is no different. Here are the weirdest facts we've uncovered about your favorite trickster.

15 HE IS SUPER DURABLE

Pitting Peter Parker with his spider-powers against an actual god is still not a fair fight when you think about it. While Parker is a formidable hero on his own, it still doesn't mean fighting Loki is an easy task. In Amazing Spider-Man #503 and #504, the two teamed up against evil witch named Morwen who had possessed Loki's daughter's body.

Before Loki and Spider-Man do team up, Parker is super suspicious of the Trickster God. Spider-Man tried punching and kicking the God of Mischief with all his might, but it was no use. Loki was too powerful. Every punch Spider-Man gave did no damage to Loki as he used his magic to brush him away. Eventually, they came to terms and helped Loki free his daughter from Morwen's control.

14 CAN PHASE THROUGH OBJECTS WITH MAGIC

The Vision isn't the only being in the Marvel Universe that can change his molecular structure to phase through objects. Actually, there are many Marvel heroes and villains that have that ability, and Loki is no exception. During Journey Into Mystery #116, Thor and Loki embark on a "Trial of the Gods" on Skornheim where Loki uses his own brand of phasing.

One of the trials pitted Loki against a treacherous landscape of spiny plants. This was no difficult feat for Loki to overcome because he had the help of his trusty Norn Stones. While Norn Stones could not affect the plants in any way, they could change Loki himself. He used them to change himself molecularly to become a "ghostly, white figure" that could go right through the spiny plants in his way. He has since been able to affect a similar change without the stones.

13 WAS A WOMAN (FOR A WHILE)

In Thor: Ragnarok (the comics, not the movie), Loki fulfilled his destiny of leading Asgard's enemies against the realm to destroy it once and for all. It didn't end so well for Loki because when Thor fulfilled his destiny to end the cycle of Ragnarok that meant the death of all Asgardians as well as many in the Nine Realms. It was a monumental disaster, but it ended the cycle.

Soon after, Loki returned, but not as he once was. He came back as a woman working with Doctor Doom to be put on the throne of Asgard. It was later revealed that Loki had retained his male form, but had used the body of Thor's lover Lady Siff to pull off the stunt. It was all kind of... weird.

12 FIREPROOF

In Loki: Agent of Asgard #7, Doctor Doom is trying to determine whether or not Loki is who she actually says she is. He decides to conduct a little test of his own by inviting her over for dinner with a Doombot positioned in front of her. As Loki starts eating the food, she realizes it is poisoned and proceeds to spit it out. What she puts out is a flame that starts to incinerate the whole room.

Her callous nature at seeing the two servers meet their fiery fate and her immunity to pain and poison gives Doom all the evidence he needs. As the flames continue to rage, Loki simply tries to have a conversation with Doom as he watches safely from another room; unfortunately, the servers are incinerated into oblivion and Loki remains unharmed.

11 BROUGHT DOWN A BUILDING WITH HIS FIST

In the MCU, Loki isn't known for his strength at all. In fact, he's played off as the slim, yet cunning manipulator that doesn't need the raw power of his brother Thor. The comics have a different take on the Trickster God, whose strength is formidable without reaching the same might as Thor. He's fought against heroes like Hulk and Spider-Man while holding his own.

In Thor #147, Loki has returned to Earth from his exile on Asgard, but flees to Earth to bail out his powerless brother Thor from jail. His plans were less than charitable as he decides to exploit Thor's powerless predicament. With Thor in his weakened state, Loki tries to beat him into submission. As Thor tries to escape by climbing a building, Loki strikes a building with his fist and brings it down.

10 TURNED HIMSELF INTO VARIOUS ANIMALS

Loki has disguised himself as many people before, but none of his disguises are funnier than when he transforms into an animal. He has eluded the God of Thunder using this tactic a lot. In Journey Into Mystery #88, after being defeated by Thor, Loki is forbidden from leaving Asgard ever again. With revenge still on his mind, Loki casts a spell on Thor and discovers he has a mortal alter-ego. Loki then escapes Asgard as a snake.

Then on Earth, Loki fights with Thor and enacts a plan that involves Jane Foster and a tree that turns into a tiger (you read that right). Thor must choose between saving Foster or grabbing his hammer (which if he doesn't touch for more than 60 seconds, rids him of his Thor powers). He chooses the latter and loses his powers. Loki creates a forcefield around the hammer and transforms into a pigeon.

9 BODY WAS RADIOACTIVE ONCE

Loki can somehow change his molecular structure to do really odd things. He can become animals with his magic or phase through objects, but that's not all! Avengers #1 had Loki wreaking havoc behind the scenes while the Avengers try to clean up the damage. He had a train wreck orchestrated to look like the Hulk had caused the damage.

When Thor finally caught Loki, he brought him to the Avengers and explained his involvement. Just as he was in their care, Loki turned his body radioactive to keep the Avengers away from him. He thought he had duped them with this plan, but as he stepped back, he had fallen through a trap door triggered by Ant-Man's ants. The room that Loki fell into was lined with lead.

8 THRIVES UNDER PRESSURE (LITERALLY)

Avengers West Coast #55 was the conclusion to the Acts of Vengeance storyline that had supervillains orchestrate organized acts on various superheroes of the Marvel Universe. Thor realizes that the person who organized all the villains must be his brother Loki. He tells the other Avengers that it was him and they set off to find the God of Mischief.

Loki fights them off and escapes, but his brother Thor continues to go after him. They fight and Thor does, at least to the Avengers' minds, something unthinkable. He traps his brother Loki under "a million tons of Earth." Captain America is shocked by Thor's actions, but Thor explains that Loki is only imprisoned and even an "unworthy god" could survive the fate he imposed on his brother.

7 IMPERVIOUS TO ROGUE'S POWERS

During X-Men and Alpha Flight #2, the two groups teamed up to find Cyclops, Madelyne Pryor, and other missing scientists. They went missing when a mysterious force struck the plane they were taking to the Arctic Circle. They didn't know it then, but discovered later on that Loki had been observing them this entire time (more specifically, keeping an eye on Talisman).

When the fight reaches Loki, he is blasted at by Cyclops. This infuriates the God of Mischief and he declares that Cyclops and the others will pay for it. The reason Cyclops hits him is that Loki tried to give Earth what he called "a gift."  The gift is that the Fire Fountain gives anyone incredible power, but steals their ability to dream. During this whole ordeal, Rogue tries to drain Loki of his power, but it is a "futile" effort according to him. His power only overwhelms her.

6 SPEED-OF-THOUGHT REFLEXES

There's no denying that Loki is a god of immeasurable wit. While most of his plans do get thwarted by the Avengers and many others, it is still a testament to his prowess that he's battled against beings like Dormammu and Silver Surfer. The reason for this? Loki's agility is something not to underestimate as it helped him do things like catch the Silver Surfer in mid-flight.

The speed of thought is an abstract concept, but he's mentioned it in Avengers #1 when he's battling his brother Thor. "With the speed of thought," Loki was able to quickly defend against Thor's thrown hammer with an ice-casting spell. He's also raced his own thoughts in Thor #272 and mentioned that his thoughts "fly at a speed beyond all reckoning. Not lightning itself can outstrip the power of thought."

5 CAN CREATE COPIES OF HIS OWN BODY

We've seen that Loki can create illusions that look so real that Thor actually believed his brother died in Thor: The Dark World. These illusions are perfect for someone dubbed the God of Mischief to pull off, but he hasn't always just created illusions of himself. In the comics, Loki has actually been able to create copies of his actual body to overwhelm whomever he is fighting.

One example is in Thor #353, where Loki is trying to stall Surtur from lighting the sword Twilight in the Eternal Flame. Surtur catches on to the trick quickly, but Loki decides to keep Surtur from committing his atrocity by overwhelming the demon with copies of himself to fight against. He's also done this in Avengers: The Origin #3 to fight against his brother Thor.

4 CAN SHRINK OR GROW GIANT

Loki shares a similar ability to... Ant-Man and Giant Man? That's right! Loki can actually shrink the size of his body or enlarge to some crazy proportions. It makes sense considering he is technically a Frost Giant. He's able to affect this feat through the use of his magic. He's used his ability to become giant against one of Thor's friends and once romantic interest Lady Sif in Thor #191.

He's also enlarged himself in X-Men and Alpha Flight #2 when he was fighting against the cosmic team and the mutants. He stood over there them as they watched astonished. His body was also shrunk in Thor #181 so small that it showed off the soul that was trapped within it which was too overwhelmingly good for Mephisto to bear. The person's soul controlling Loki's body was...

3 THOR ONCE CONTROLLED ONE OF HIS BODIES

In Thor #179, Loki goes to Thor's alter-ego Donald Blake's face to find Thor while he is still mortal. During their meeting, Loki throws the living mask on Thor's face. The God of Thunder cannot take it off and very quickly the two's consciousness is switched between both bodies. Loki has control of Thor's body and vice versa.

Loki proceeds to try to tarnish Thor's good name by rampaging through New York. Before he starts to do that, he watches as Thor's friends Lady Sif and Balder attack the God of Thunder trapped in Loki's body. Thor tries to convince his friends that he is actually Thor, but it is in vain. Thor is stuck controlling Loki's body for another two issues and even manages to use some of the God of Mischief's powers.

2 REPEATEDLY SLAMMED INTO THE FLOOR BY HULK (AND LIVED)

In Marvel's The Avengers, Loki tried to take over Earth with the help of Thanos and the Chitauri army. He connived his way into a cell in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier to enact a disastrous plan: he was going to infect the mind of Bruce Banner with the power of the Mind Stone in the scepter. Loki was successful in this manipulation and the Hulk tore through the Helicarrier.

Later on, Loki boasted his godliness to Hulk, but in mid-sentence, the green giant decided to shut the God of Mischief up by slamming into the floor repeatedly. It was a comedic moment, but Hulk still beat Loki down and while the Trickster God didn't fall unconscious, it was still a world of pain for him. Not many can survive that kind of beating, but Loki is no ordinary foe.

1 SURVIVE HEADLESSNESS

During Thor #344, Thor's half-brother Balder finds out that Loki is working with Malekith to plan and commit something horrible against the people of Asgard. Loki is super smug during this interaction with Balder. The God of Mischief's trolls quickly grab a hold of Balder and he must make a choice between getting imprisoned or fighting through the trolls.

Balder decides to choose the latter, but this earns no respect from Loki. He laughs at Balder for his violent outburst, which only further angers him. He quickly reacts with a swift slice to Loki's neck, cutting his head clean off. This is also met with a disrespectful remark after Loki picks up his head and returns it to his body. His headlessness did not kill him.
