Honey and Venom by Kurzz

Honey and Venom by Kurzz

Two thousand years after they are separated, the goddess Axiothea is reunited with her devoted priestess and soulmate, Caelia -- except now Caelia goes by Robin and has no idea who Axiothea is. Robin has a bizarre dream of her past life, then sees Axiothea at the grocery store the next morning in a classic meet-cute with a resurrection twist. Now, not only does Axiothea have to navigate the modern world, she has to win back her true love. It's... complicated.

Honey and Venom by Kurzz embodies some of the best romantic comedy tropes, including instant, unexplainable emotional connection and plenty of pining. The story jumps between the present and past to establish who Axiothea and Caelia were then, as well as who Ax and Robin are now. Their relationship is different after two millennia, but their love remains true... even if it takes a while for them both to see it. Kurzz's writing is heartfelt and lovely and her art is gorgeous, particularly when it comes to her use of color. Each time period feels fully fleshed-out, which allows readers to totally immerse themselves in this love story that spans across time and space.

Lovespells by Ryan & Sage

Lovespells by Ryan & Sage

Esther Nocture is a talented mage, but due to a spell cast on her when she was young, she rapidly expands mana when she casts spells as an adult -- which often leads to her losing consciousness at the worst possible moments. During a fight that's just above her skill level, she collapses, but lucky for her, lady knight Maria Haas appears and saves Esther's life. After she awakens, she quickly develops a crush on her savior. When Maria asks Esther to help her hone her own magical abilities, they both catch feelings, which only grow as they spend more time with one another.

Lovespells by Ryan and Sage is a fantasy-set, slow-burn, lesbian romance about two people who are adorably stupid over each other. Though the webcomic is currently on hiatus, the creators have assured readers that when it's finished, it will feature a happy ending and it will keep a firm PG-13 rating. The character designs in Lovespells are fantastic, as is the art in general. The attention to detail, particularly when it comes to backgrounds and lighting effects, is much appreciated. Likewise, the writing is sharp and funny, giving all the characters distinct voices and plenty of room to grow, even as the protagonists suffer through major mutual pining.

Available on Tapas and lovespellscomic.com, on hiatus

Stick n' Poke by Tobi Rose and Max Dlabick

Stick n' Poke by Tobi and Max

Mal Hassan has lived a pretty quite life on her mom's farm, but when her best friend moves to Los Angeles, she takes over her social media -- and drums up enough engagement to be offered an interview working for her favorite band, the Crawmamas. Mal goes on tour with the band and quickly realizes it's not as glamorous as she imagined it to be, though she's still holding out hope for an epic romance -- or something.

Stick n' Poke by Tobi Rose and Max Dlabick is a gorgeous explosion of color with a diverse cast of characters and a relatable premise that adopts some romantic comedy conventions while subverting others. Mal is a trans girl whose world is turned upside-down when she jets off to L.A. armed with her social media skills and a dream, but even on a trajectory that's unfamiliar to most readers, her hopes help ground the story, as do her personal relationships. The art and writing are as punk rock as the premise and the world feels real enough to touch. The romance hasn't yet begun, but the foreshadowing is delicious and the pay-off is sure to be just as much of a treat.

Available on Tapas and Webtoon, updates Tuesdays
