All week long we will feature brand-new Cool Superman Comic Book Moments (all from the 75 Greatest Superman Stories of All-Time). Here is an archive of all the past cool comic moments that I've featured so far over the years.

We continue the list with two young boys saving the world by creating Superman...

Okay, here's the conceit you have to buy into for 1984's Action Comics #554 by Marv Wolfman and Gil Kane. Some aliens want to conquer Earth, but they know with Superman and all the other heroes on Earth, they would not be able to. So they go into the past and find a way to eliminate the very notion of the heroic ideal. If anyone were to ever recreate this idea, then everything would automatically revert to the way things were before the aliens altered Earth.

So now we have an Earth that is conquered by aliens and is vastly different from our Earth. Two young boys, though, keep annoying their friends with this character they came up with. A character that the aliens are very interested in, since it seems like it might be a hero - something that humans should be unable to think of. Not young Jerry and Joe, though...

Now that they realize that their idea can really hurt the aliens, they race home and put on homemade Superman costumes and run to the their fellow villagers and try to get them to rally around believing in Superman, as well...

Awesome.

Superman is back and so is our regular world. Superman takes care of the aliens and the day is saved.

Interestingly enough, while the story is all about Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the issue ends with pastiches of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby creating Captain America (showing the continued power of great ideas, I suppose).
