Showtime is fortifying its programming future not just with new endeavors like Homeland, but also some old favorites as well. The network has renewed the Mary Louise Parker-starring Weeds for a seventh season, ensuring that domestic drug dealer Nancy Botwin has at least one more year before her dangerous lifestyle finally gets the better of her.
Additionally, Showtime has also renewed The Big C for a second season following its successful debut in August. Laura Linney stars as Cathy Jamison, a woman who is diagnosed with cancer and decides to make some radical changes to her lifestyle.
“The unprecedented viewership for both The Big C and Weeds proves that audiences love these shows as much as we do,“ Showtime entertainment president David Nevins tells Deadline of the renewals. “For six seasons, we’ve happily traveled along with Nancy Botwin and we’re equally as excited to follow Laura Linney and The Big C team as they chart Cathy’s unique journey through such a provocative and personal subject as cancer.”
