Uncle Fester was confirmed to appear in the upcoming Netflix series, though Burton refused to divulge the actor's identity until the release of the trailer. A mainstay of The Addams Family franchise, Uncle Fester was originally played by Jackie Coogan in the 1964 sitcom of the same name and by Christopher Lloyd in the feature films of the '90s, which included the Addams Family in 1991, Addams Family Values in 1993 and Addams Family Reunion in 1998. Ricci starred alongside Lloyd in all three Addams Family films as Wednesday.

Created by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday is a live-action supernatural mystery series directed by Burton that follows the eponymous Wednesday through her years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Consisting of eight episodes, Wednesday will see the titular Addams as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, stop a monstrous killing spree terrorizing the local town of Jericho and solve a 25-year-old mystery.

"We then got the call that visionary director and lifelong Addams Family fan Tim Burton wanted to make his television directorial debut with this series," said Netflix's director of original series Teddy Biaselli when Wednesday was announced. "Tim has had a history of telling empowering stories about social outsiders like Edward Scissorhands, Lydia Deitz, and Batman. And now he brings his unique vision to Wednesday and her spooky classmates at Nevermore Academy."

Originally announced in October 2020, Wednesday will serve as a spinoff to The Addams Family, which was first created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 as a single-panel comic. It has since grown exponentially into a franchise featured on the big and small screens, both in live-action and animation.

Wednesday premiers on Nov. 23 on Netflix.
