Venom fans have a lot to look forward to in August, as Marvel commits to exploring the roots of the symbiotes that have powered Eddie Brock and multiple other hosts over the years.
CBR has the first details on Web of Venom: Ve'Nam, an August-debuting one-shot from current Venom ongoing series writer Donny Cates and artist Juanan Ramírez, recently of Uncanny Avengers. The story, stemming directly from events in the main Venom book, looks to reveal the secret history of when the original Nick Fury attempted to use an ancestor of the Klyntar symbiotes as a weapon during the Vietnam War -- with predictably dire results.
The title looks to be a clear reference to the The 'Nam, a Marvel comic book series which ran from 1986 to 1993, and presented a fictionalized account of mostly real events during the Vietnam War.
On Thursday, CBR had word of Venom: The First Host, an upcoming five-issue miniseries from Mike Costa and Mark Bagley about what happens when the titular "First Host" -- before Spider-Man, before Venom -- returns. The current Venom ongoing series, which launched earlier this month from the team of Cates and artist Ryan Stegman, has made it clear that the historical roots of symbiotes will be a major focus -- with the issue including a scene where a symbiote slaughters Norse warriors.
