There is a long line of anime characters who have hidden the fact that they are powerful enough to defeat most people with ease. There is an equal number of characters on the opposite end of the spectrum. These characters like to brag about their supposed sky-high power level, even though they aren't nearly as strong as the major protagonists.

By continuing to boast about their own strength, they begin to believe that they really are as powerful as they say, which often leads to them experiencing some kind of misfortune as a result. These characters are usually the comedic relief in the series and can be vastly entertaining to watch.

10 Fairy Tail: Nichiya Is Confident But Cowardly

Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki is one of Fairy Tail's infamous gag characters and far from being one of the strongest characters, but his Edolas counterpart is even weaker.

Nichiya has the cat-like appearance of an Exceed, and he decides to join the Blue Pegasus Guild. Despite eagerly taking part in the Grand Magic Games, he is taken out in one blow, making Ichiya realize that he overestimated his friend's powers because of his handsome (?) appearance.

9 Dragon Ball: Oolong Can Appear Tough, But Appearances Are Deceiving

When Goku first met Oolong in Dragon Ball, the talking pig was known as a demon terrorizing the Aru Village. He would storm into the village disguised as a monster, and kidnapped young women.

His intention was to make them clean his house, but unbeknownst to the villagers, the women were living lives of luxury. Thanks to his training at the Shapeshifting Academy, he gained the ability to take on multiple intimidating appearances, and for a while he let this supposed power get to his head.

8 Bleach: Kon Likes To Bask In His Own Self-Importance

In his stuffed animal form, Kon is the weakest yet most arrogant character in Bleach. He even likes to refer to himself as the King of New York, although he hasn't done anything to earn the title. When in Ichigo's body, he is usually acting carelessly or selfishly.

He won't hesitate to rip into Ichigo Kurosaki for making the smallest mistakes as if he would make a flawless Shinigami if he were in Ichigo's shoes.

Mineta is a hypocrite who won't hesitate to criticize the shortcomings of others, even if he happens to share those same shortcomings. He likes to show off in front of others, and he wants to be a hero in order to become popular, especially with women.

He only acts cowardly if he is in a situation that seems stressful or disadvantageous, but is usually prideful about his contributions to a fight afterward. Out of all of the Class 1-A Quirks in My Hero Academia, his is one of the least powerful.

6 Ranma 1/2: Tatewaki Kuno Has A Big Ego No Matter How Many Times He Loses

Kuno is so confident in his abilities that he bestows various nicknames on himself, which he changes every so often. Some examples are "The Blue Thunder of Furinkan High" or "Shooting Star." He is the Captain of the Kendo Club, and his abilities were respected until Ranma Saotome transferred to his school.

At that point, he became a joke character that not only constantly lost to Ranma, but to the other characters that were introduced as well.

5 Fullmetal Alchemist: Father Cornello

Father Cornello is one of the first antagonists introduced in Fullmetal Alchemist. At the surface level, he seems like a kind person who established a church in a small town. However, he intended to gather as many devout followers as possible, who would help him to rise in power.

He had a philosopher's stone which allowed him to perform tiny miracles, which he pretended were divine rather than a result of alchemy. It was very easy for trained alchemists like Edward and Alphonse Elric to defeat him.

Eclair is a short, stubby penguin who is overly proud of his position as an assistant butler. He works for the Great Tomb of Nazarick in Overlord, and he gets his arrogance from his creator, who programmed him with the desire to conquer Nazarick as a joke.

This is why no one takes his claims to one day rule Nazarick seriously. In order to make his dreams come true, he boasts that he will show off his extraordinary skills as a butler first, stating that he could clean toilets so well that people would be able to eat off of them.

3 Seven Deadly Sins: Hawk Is Convinced He's As Strong As The Sins

Hawk is a talking pink pig that is often seen traveling with Meliodas in The Seven Deadly Sins. He takes great pride in his work as the Boar Hat bar's janitor, happily cleaning up food scraps left over by customers.

He seems to be convinced that he is stronger than the Seven Deadly Sins, who happen to be the best warriors in the world. He even goes as far as to say that he could even handle the Demon King as well, but there is no way that he could.

2 The Rising Of The Shield Hero: Malty Melromarc Thought She Was Untouchable Because She Was Princess

Malty is the kind of person who enjoys making others suffer, as shown when she frames Naofumi Iwatani for a crime that he never committed. As a princess spoiled by her father, Malty gets away with almost everything in The Rising Of The Shield Hero.

When it seems like she is about to get punished, she uses her acting and her pretty face to avoid punishment. Her lack of power is proven later, as her crimes are eventually exposed and she is finally forced to pay for those crimes.

1 Pokémon: Goh's Scorbunny Likes To Mock Others & Pick Fights

When Goh's Scorbunny was still a wild Pokémon, it spent its time with some Nickits. They often stole food and even stole Ash Ketchum's bag. Scorbunny enjoyed teasing Ash, mocking him as though he and Pikachu wouldn't be able to do anything against it.

It also frequently liked to kick Ash whenever it felt like it, but it would subsequently get punished by Pikachu. Unfortunately, Pikachu's good intentions ended up shocking Ash in the process.
