WC13 | Kristin Kreuk, Kelly Souders Tease Beauty and the Beast Finale

Fans of Beauty and the Beast have a lot to look forward to when The CW drama returns April 18 with "Heart of Darkness." There's a lot of mythology to cram into the last five episodes of Season 1, and star Kristin Kreuk and producer Kelly Souders were surprisingly open about what's in store during interviews at WonderCon Anaheim.

Kruek teased that although the procedural element of Beauty and the Beast has died, her character Cat and Nina Lisandrello's character Tess will be a team once again. Meanwhile, Souders promised that fans will find out more about Sendhil Ramamurthy's Gabe and the new place he has on the show.

"It'll be a lot of Muirfield, a lot of Evan, Gabe, and also even coming into a little bit of a more personal storyline where you start thinking about a future with a person you love and you realize that future is pretty dark," Kreuk said, emphasizing that the end of Season 1 will be all about Muirfield, [the company hired to create super-soldiers for the U.S. government, and the relationships on the show.

She continued, "We'll find out who kind of is the head of Muirfield, which is a big deal. Of course, there will be a huge fight. By the end of the season, I'll put it this way, Catherine and Vincent are going to be in a situation where -- I hate using these terms because they're so vague but I have to be vague -- everything has changed between them. Her understanding of her entire life is different. He's in a bad situation. Just, it's bad, and they have to figure out. I don't know how they're going to. It's a complicated situation."

One of the relationships that will be explored is the one Cat has with her dead mother. "We'll find out more about how she died, what the circumstances surrounding that are and how there are secrets around Catherine's family that Vincent may or may not know about that he's been keeping from her," Kreuk said.

Souders added, "That's definitely going to come into play and how she comes to learn more about her mother is kind of interesting. More will kind of unravel all the way really up through the finale."

Expect Season 1 to end on more than one cliffhanger -- "multiple cliffhangers," Souders teased. "As you leave this season, it kind of tees you up for some bigger revelations to come down the road in Season 2. I don't think you'll be disappointed.”

One of those could be that there are more beasts than just Jay Ryan's Vincent Keller. In fact, Kreuk said fans should have already expected that revelation to be coming.

"There obviously are more than one," she said. "The episode with Evan, there's so much -- and I don't want to spoil anything -- but there's so much about the experiments, what's going on, what's happening currently, what's Muirfield doing now? All of that stuff, it's pretty revealing of what's going on with the organization."

In terms of what else is coming up, Kreuk teased a Smallville reunion could happen in future seasons. She has remained friends with her fellow Smallville stars Erica Durance and Allison Mack, and said the topic of them making appearances on Beauty and the Beast has come up. That being said, their potential appearances won't happen in Season 1 and Kreuk doesn't want them to occur if it's not for the right story.

Both Kreuk and Sauders also confirmed what fans likely expected: the kiss between Cat and Vincent was moved up in Season 1.

"It's obvious, we changed the direction of this show so much," Kreuk said. "I'm surprised, but I like it. I like exploring the relationship as opposed to 'yes,' 'no,' 'yes,' 'no,' 'yes' -- that's not as interesting to me, and maybe it's because I'm 30 and I just want to know. Like, let's get in the relationship and see how it goes from there, you know?"

Beauty and the Beast airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
