WB's 300 Follow-up Lands Jamie Blackley in Lead Role

British actor Jamie Blackley has been cast in a lead role in the untitled follow-up to 300, joining Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green in the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures film.

According to Deadline, the 20-year-old Blackley will play Calisto, a teen whose desire to become the hero is father was spurs him to become a leader of a small band of soldiers.

Directed by Noam Murro from a script by 300 collaborators Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, the film is supposedly based on Xerxes, the upcoming Dark Horse miniseries by Frank Miller described as “a sweeping tale with gods and warriors” that takes place 10 years before Thermopylae, beginning with the legendary Battle of Marathon. However, recent indications are that the feature, previously referred to as Xerxes and 300: Battle of Artemisia, diverges from the source material.

Blackley, who has a role in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, also appeared in the 2010 crime drama London Boulevard and on two episodes of the U.K. series Misfits.
