WB Moves Jack the Giant Killer, Puts Arthur & Lancelot on Hold

As the old saying goes, it’s a movie studio’s prerogative to change its mind. (What, that’s not an old saying?) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has made some big changes to its release schedule, moving back one major film by nine months while pushing another off its calendar entirely.

First and foremost, director David Dobkin’s Camelot drama Arthur & Lancelot, starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing), has been removed while the studio works out the film’s rumored budget issues. It had been set to open March 15, 2013.

Meanwhile, Bryan Singer’s 3D epic Jack The Giant Killer has been shuffled from its original release of June 15, 2012, to March 20, 2013. No reason was given, but it could very well be the embarrassment of box-offices riches the second half of the year promises for Warner Bros., between the release of The Dark Knight Rises in July and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in December. Studios often like to move flicks around to make the most money spread out across all four quarters of the year. Let’s hope it’s that, and not a problem with the film itself.

Jack the Giant Killer stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson and Ewan McGregor.
