As previously reported, The CW chose not to pick up the planned Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters, a move greeted with disappointment from many fans. In fact, some of them started a petition to attempt to persuade the network's executives to change their minds. In response to the furor, The CW President Mark Pedowitz shared why the series isn't part of the network's fall lineup.

"We had really great material this year," he said in a conference call with reporters. "We're really excited about the five series we did pick up. We're big fans of the characters and the women who played those characters in the series, but we didn't feel creatively that the show was where we wanted it to be. We felt we had a better shot with Legacies."

Legacies is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries that picks up where the other spinoff, The Originals, ends this summer.

Wayward Sisters would have starred Kim Rhodes, Kathryn Newton and Katherine Ramdeen. The backdoor pilot aired earlier this season as an episode of Supernatural, and received praise from fans. Supernatural, however, will continue this fall with its 14th season.
