To create a world populated by superheroes and villains across multiple time periods and incredible settings, Watchmen needed a lot of work to come to visual life.

HBO released a behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing the visual effects work that went into making the acclaimed comic book adaptation, from period piece sequences in Tulsa to raining extraterrestrial squids that routinely send people ducking for cover.

With colorful superheroes like Doctor Manhattan and Looking Glass, the television series mixed practical and computer-generated effects to highlight how otherworldly the characters are in comparison to their costumed peers.

There is no word if Watchmen will receive a second season from HBO, though showrunner Damon Lindelof has indicated he's open to the possibility if he can come up with an idea for a continuation that's worthy enough to follow Season 1.
