Watchmen star Regina King would come back to the HBO series for a second season as long as the right person asked her. However, the actor also believes that if she did make an appearance in a second season, her character would likely just get killed off in the first episode of Season 2.

King sat down for an interview with Variety this week. Eventually, the talk turned to her first real foray into the comic book hero genre, and she was asked if she would return for a second run at Watchmen. "If Damon [Lindelof] changed his mind? Yes," she said. "Because I know if he did it, that means something. Something happened. In all honesty, it would probably be something where Angela dies in the first episode. I don't know."

Earlier this fall, Watchmen earned a spate of awards at the TV Critics Association (TCA) Awards. Not long after those honors, Watchmen won four Emmys out of the seven categories it was nominated in. Regina King took the first of those four home after winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Professional critics were far from the only people heaping praise on the HBO series, which is based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1980s comic. King and the rest of the cast earned high compliments from some very high profile fans, including former president of the United States Barack Obama. He very much approved of the way Watchmen fused history and fantasy together to handle issues centering on race relations.

The way showrunner Damon Lindelof handled race in the HBO series is one of the reasons King signed on in the first place. However, she was not immediately sold. "How Damon even decided to tackle this subject matter was very risky business," King told Variety. "Being a white man. Speaking on inherited pain in the Black community. I said, 'are you really ready for this?'"

Developed by Damon Lindelof, HBO's Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Jean Smart, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, James Wolk, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon. The series is now streaming on HBO Max.
