For months, HBO has been tight-lipped about the upcoming Watchmen series but lately, more news seems to be hitting the forefront.
Now, following the release of the first teaser trailer, fans can get a closer look at Oscar winner Regina King's mysterious character sporting a black hood and mask.
Watchmen is based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1985 gritty take on superheroes. According to executive producer Damon Lindelof, the new series will embrace the legacy of the original highly acclaimed tale, while also adding something wholly unique.
While little is known about King's character as of yet, her stoic expression and black-clad uniform imply the character will fit into the universe's darker take on superheroes. The Sheriff's badge is also an intriguing takeaway, leaving fans wondering what happened to make this character pick up the badge and start her crusade. Considering this series takes place in an alternate reality where superheroes are outlawed, the choice to almost completely cover this yet-to-be-named character's face seems practical.
Developed by Damon Lindelof, HBO's adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, James Wolk, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon. The series will premiere in the fall of 2019.
