The first trailer for HBO's Watchmen series introduced fans to Laurie Blake (Jean Smart), who many suspected might be the Silk Spectre from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' comic of the same name. Creator Damon Lindelof has confirmed that is indeed the case.

According to IGN, Lindelof confirmed at HBO's Television Critics Association that Smart would play Silk in the series. The trailer itself introduces an older version of the character using her father's name, seemingly eschewing her maiden name of Juspeczyk. The footage portrays her as an FBI Agent, and she even remarks she used to engage in costumed heroics.

The daughter of Sally Jupiter, the first Silk Spectre, and Edward Blake/The Comedian (though she was raised by Laurence Schexnayder), Laurie is one of the main characters of the original Watchmen series, in which she's romantically involved with both Dr. Manhattan and Daniel Dreiberg/Nite Owl. Although the former appears at the end of the trailer, the latter was only hinted at.

Developed by Damon Lindelof, HBO's Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, James Wolk, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon. The series will premiere in the fall of 2019.
