HBO’s Watchmen is already driving comics fans crazy with unanswered questions. With just a handful of episodes left before the season finale, there are still many questions that fans are dying to have answered. There are many mysteries that have been introduced with the new series — William Reeves, Adrian Veidt’s captivity and Lube Man, for example — but there are still many questions left from the original comic that haven’t been answered just yet. With mysteries abound and just a few episodes left to get those oh-so satisfying answers, let’s dive into what fans absolutely need to know before the season reaches its conclusion.

10 Where Exactly Is Adrian Veidt?

While the series had initially tried to keep Jeremy Iron's character very close to the chest, many fans were immediately able to guess that he would be playing the “smartest man on the planet," Adrian Veidt. Fans may not know exactly what’s behind "Squidpocalypse ‘85," but there have been a couple of hints at where the former bullet-catching-baddie has found himself.

Veidt has been seen repeatedly experimenting, trying with all his might to escape what he himself originally thought was a paradise. He appears to have crafted some sort of spacesuit, which would hint that Doctor Manhattan may not be the only resident of Mars. But should Veidt escape captivity and find himself on Mars, where exactly would he go from there?

9 And Who Took Him Captive?

Initially, it seemed rather obvious that Veidt had been taken captive by none other than the big blue himself, Doctor Manhattan. But as the series has evolved, it seems that there is another likely contender for the being keeping Ozymandias captive (or safe?), Lady Trieu. While audiences don’t know much about the mysterious Lady Trieu yet, what they do know is that Lady Trieu is quite the fan of both Adrian Veidt and his work. At this point in the series it seems like either Doctor Manhattan or Lady Trieu could be responsible, but with more than a handful of episodes left to go, anything is possible.

8 Why Are Squids Falling From The Sky?

Anyone who has read the comic, and even many people who haven’t, are aware that the giant telepathic squid that attacked New York was nothing more than a hoax, a fiction created and masterminded by one Adrian Veidt. So if the original squid attack was something dreamt up by the former vigilante, then why exactly are there still squids falling from the sky? Had Adrian set something in place to make sure that people would continue to believe his tale? Has the government backed him up with a plan of their own? Or is there something even more nefarious going on here?

7 Who Is “Lube Man”...?

In the episode titled, “If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own,” Sister Night and audiences alike were introduced to the incredible “Lube Man." As Sister Night disposes of the evidence that would link her to William Reeves, a man dressed head to toe in silver spandex watches her from across the street. When she notices him and begins to pursue him, the man sprints off through the streets.

However, just as Sister Night is about to catch up to the mysterious silver man, he covers himself in lube (which he carries in his utility belt) and slip’n’slides his way right into a storm drain — leaving Sister Night and audiences alike asking, "WTF?" Is he a cop? Is it Agent Petey taking his fascination with masks to the next level? Just who is this mysterious slippery weirdo? And why lube of all things?

6 ...And What Is His Goal?

While his origins are already pretty mysterious in and of themselves, what’s more important is what this mysterious slippery silver being was trying to accomplish. Was he simply a fellow masked vigilante hoping to find a lead? Was he following Sister Night for the express purpose of finding out what she had done with William Reeves? At this point, there’s really no way of knowing what’s going through that slippery man’s twisted head. But what fans do know is that whatever he has planned, it’s probably going to be pretty important somewhere down the line.

5 What’s The Deal With William Reeves?

Audiences were first introduced to Sister Night's (Angela Abar) wheelchair-ridden grandfather during the opening sequence of the very first episode. Since then, the man who has been alive over a century has only become more and more shrouded in mystery. He’s admitted to lynching Judd Crawford, although at the time it was seemingly impossible. He’s somehow connected to the mysterious Lady Trieu. There are just so many questions surrounding the mysterious old man. What is he after? Why has he decided to take action now? What is he planning? What has he been doing since the Tulsa massacre back in 1921? He can walk now? What the hell? It seems that when it comes to William Reeves, there are only more and more questions and never any answers. Hopefully that changes soon.

4 What Are William And Lady Trieu Planning?

While she was introduced much later than William Reeves, another character that has audiences guessing is Lady Trieu. Despite having only been introduced rather recently, or perhaps because of it, Lady Trieu has left many fans and characters alike intrigued. While audiences don’t know much about Lady Trieu, what they do know is that she’s currently working with William Reeves on a plan that will hurt Angela and will make her “hate” William. The real question is whether Lady Trieu and William are actually working together as partners, or is one subservient to the other? Whose plan is it? How do they know each other? And what, for the love of big blue, are they after?

3 What Is The Seventh Calvary Planning?

For a series with only a few episodes under its belt, there are certainly a lot of moving pieces. One of the major pieces, perhaps the pieces that started this whole uproar, is the Seventh Calvary. The right-wing Rorschach fanatics seem to be making their way towards a very big play. While they have stated that they aren’t too keen on killing cops, they were certainly willing to kill when it came to protecting their secret during the first episode of the season. Fans may not have any idea what the Seventh Calvary are up to, but rest assured that their time is coming. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

2 Where Is Doctor Manhattan...?

Perhaps one of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind is where exactly is Doctor Manhattan? While there was a brief clip of the good doctor on Mars destroying a structure that looked eerily similar to Adrian Veidt’s dwellings, how sure can anyone be sure that the clip was real (or current)? In the age of fake news, it’s difficult to say whether or not Doctor Manhattan is even still a resident of the Milky Way, much less of Mars. And with talk about Doctor Manhattan possibly hiding out on Earth, there are plenty of rumors going around that could be distracting viewers from the truth.

1 ...And What Has He Been Up To This Whole Time?

It has been a long time since Adrian Veidt’s plan to save the world from war came to fruition, and as far as fans and the heroes of Watchmen know, Doctor Manhattan was on his way out of the galaxy. Perhaps he wished to find a galaxy less complicated by the lives and desires of human beings. Perhaps, he hoped to go somewhere where he could create life of his own and fiddle around with godhood. There are many possibilities, but whatever he chose to do, it’s certain that many fans are hoping to see more than just a news clip of the big blue nudist.
