The clock is ticking down for the arrival of HBO's Watchmen series. In just a few weeks, the highly anticipated television show will premiere and its many secrets will be revealed. But while the series' trailers have given us an idea of what to expect from the show, much of its plot is still being kept under wraps.

Now, HBO has finally released the synopsis for Watchmen's first episode, "It's Summer and We're Running Out of Ice," giving us an idea of where the series will start off -- and the season-long mystery an attempted murder will generate.

Episode 1: "It's Summer and We're Running Out of Ice" -- Debut date: SUNDAY, OCT. 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m.) -- In an alternate America where police conceal their identities behind masks to protect themselves from a terrorist organization, Detective Angela Abar (Regina King) investigates the attempted murder of a fellow officer under the guidance of her friend and Chief, Judd Crawford (Don Johnson). Meanwhile, the Lord of a Country Estate (Jeremy Irons) receives an anniversary gift from his loyal servants. Written by Damon Lindelof; directed by Nicole Kassell.

Creator and writer Damon Lindelof recently revealed Watchmen was a nine-episode, single-season story. While a followup isn't planned, it could still happen, depending on the reception of the first season.
