Last night's Season 9 midseason finale of The Walking Dead was full of major revelations and character moments, including the death of beloved character Jesus in the middle of a bloody fight with what appeared to be a horde of walkers in an appropriately spooky graveyard. However, Jesus' death comes with the reveal of something far more sinister for the future of the survival horror series.

AMC has released pivotal moment from Season 9's ninth episode, titled "Evolution," containing Jesus' death with the arrival of the Whisperers, a new ruthless faction of survivors that disguise themselves by wearing the skin of the undead.

As Jesus uses his martial arts skills to battle walkers in the graveyard, a Whisperer surprises him by fatally stabbing him in the back before whispering "You are where you do not belong," to the dying fan-favorite character.

With a Whisperers poised to threaten all of the Hilltop community in the second half of Season 9, Jesus' death will resonate among his friends as they face this new danger.

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff, and Eleanor Matsuura. With the series now reaching its mid-season finale, The Walking Dead will return from its winter hiatus with all-new episodes on February 10, 2019.
