Magnolia Pictures/Magnet has released a second trailer for Monsters, the micro-budget sci-fi thriller by writer/director Gareth Edwards that many have already dubbed as “the new District 9.”
Shot on location for less than $400,000 — some reports say under $100,000 — Monsters has generated a lot of buzz online and on the film-festival circuit. The movie follows an American photojournalist and the daughter of his publisher (Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able) as they’re forced to travel through a quarantined “infected zone” in Mexico, where the U.S. and Mexican militaries struggle to contain alien life forms that have spread from a crashed NASA probe.
Monsters will be released via video on demand on Sept. 24 and in theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on Oct. 29.
