The CW has finally released a TV spot for the Sept. 24 season premiere of Supernatural — and this time it’s not merely a compilation of clips from previous episodes.
Titled “Exile on Main Street,” the episode marks not just the reunion of Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles), but also the return of their grandfather Samuel Campbell (Mitch Pileggi of The X-Files), who was last seen in a Season Four time-travel episode, “In the Beginning,” and killed long before the brothers were born.
Here’s the episode description, courtesy of The CW:
It’s a year later and Dean (Jensen Ackles) has given up hunting and is living with Lisa (guest star Cindy Sampson) and her son Ben (guest star Nicholas Elia).
Mysteriously freed from his cage in hell, Sam (Jared Padalecki) finds Dean and tells him he needs to rejoin the fight and introduces Dean to a world — a family — he never even knew existed: the Campbells, his mother’s family, lead by none other than their Grandfather Samuel (Pileggi). Phil Sgrricia directed the episode written by Sera Gamble.
The premiere also sees the return of Frederic Lehne as the demon Azazel, and series regular Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer. According to Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello, we won’t see Castiel (Misha Collins) until the third episode, when “the full-powered angel returns in spectacular fashion.”
“Let’s just say some angels show up that are not so happy,” Executive Producer Sera Gamble tells Ausiello. “Cas and an angel go through a window at one point, and the result is not pretty. It’s a pretty spectacular stunt.”
Supernatural‘s sixth season debuts on Friday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. EST/PST, right after Smallville.
