Watch the First Trailer For 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'

Warner Bros. has released the teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the final chapter in director Peter Jackson's trilogy.

As you might expect, it's somber -- mournful, even -- opening with Martin Freeman's Frodo pledging, "One day I'll remember, remember everything that happened -- the good, the bad, those who survived and those that did not," before the trailer segues into the haunting "All Shall Fade," Pippin's song from The Lord of the Rings.

Of course, with the Battle of the Five Armies right there in the title, we didn't expect thing to be jolly.

Watch the trailer for "the defining chapter of the Middle-earth saga" below. The film opens Dec. 17.
