Warner Bros. has finally debuted the long-anticipated first trailer for Steven Spileberg's adaptation of adaptation of Ernest Cline’s sci-fi classic Ready Player One, and it dos not disappoint. Not only does the teaser set up the film's plot, it offers a tantalizing glimpse of the various franchises set to be represented in the movie. Interspersed among scenes of lead character Wade Watts and the world he lives in, we see a variety of familiar faces in the virtual reality world he'd prefer to live in. Characters from Iron Giant, Nightmare on Elm Street, Worlds of Warcraft and more collide, while music reminiscent of Willy Wonka's "Pure Imagination" plays in the background.

"For me, the thing that really made me want to tell the story more htan anything else was the kind of world that 2045 gives to people, which is so dystopian,” Spielberg told the crowd assembled in Hall H at Comic-con International. “Virtually reality, you can do anything in that world. That interaction between real life, and virtual life, by the third act is almost nonexistent. That, in the book, made me want to jump into the movie."

Set in 2044, Ready Player One tells the story of teenager Wade Watts, who’d rather escape into the virtual universe “OASIS,” a notoriously unbeatable MMPORG game of pop-culture references and puzzles, than be in the real world. That is until Watts solves the first quest, leading other egg hunters to chase after him in hopes to win the game’s ultimate treasure.

Ready Player One arrives in theaters March 20, 2018.
