Sony Pictures is summoning a remake of the 1996 teen supernatural thriller"The Craft."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired rising horror filmmaker Leigh Janiak to direct  and co-write the project with her "Honeymoon" collaborator Phil Graziadei. Doug Wick, one of the producers of the original movie, will be back to produce, along with Lucy Fisher, former vice chairman of Columbia Pictures.

Directed by Andrew Fleming, the 1996 original starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True as teens at a private school who dabble in witchcraft for their own gain. However, they soon discover their spells have dark consequences.

A former assistant to producer Kevin Misher, Janiak also directed an episode of MTV's upcoming "Scream" series.
