Megan Thee Stallion, the Grammy Award-winning musician and one of Time magazine's 100Â most influential people in the world, has revealed that she is a big fan of Yuki Tabata's Black Clover.The "WAP" rapper couldn't help but gush over the anime adaptation of Tabata's popular Weekly Shonen Jump series during her recent appearance on First We Feasts' Hot Ones, a YouTube interview series where celebrities are asked questions about themselves while they eat a series of increasingly spicy hot wings. Host Sean Evans asked the musician "What is the best anime, in your opinion, to reach for when you need a laugh?," to which she replied "I'm not going to lie, let's just talk about the anime I'm finishing right now... I'm watching Black Clover, and it's so good," Megan Thee Stallion said. "My favorite character on the show is Asta, because this motherfucker is always screaming and hollering, like even if they're in the middle of a fight he'll just bust out with some goofy shit."
The six-time BET Award winner went on to explain the central concept of the series, saying "In the show, everybody has magic, everyone was born with magic. But for some reason, Asta was born with like... zero magic, so everyone's been picking on him like, "You ain't got no magic, you ain't gonna be shit," and he was like, "Yes I am!"... He doesn't have magic, but that's what makes him unique in the whole world. So anytime somebody tries to fight him or whoop on him, they can't, because he has anti-magic, so it cancels out everybody else's magic. So he's really like the coldest character in the show."
"I just feel like I can relate to him [Asta], and a lot of the main characters in anime," the musician said, explaining why she loves anime. "A lot of people try to count you out when they feel like you ain't shit or ain't got something yet, but y'know, you train and you train, and you fight and you fight, and you keep proving everybody wrong and you keep beating the odds and I feel like... That's the type of person I am."
Yuki Tabata's manga was first published in Shonen Jump in 2015. An anime adaptation was created by Naruto's animation studio Pierrot, which began airing in 2017 and recently concluded in the first half of 2021. The series is set to continue with a new anime movie, which is in production and currently has no release date.
