Watch Matthew McConaughey fight his own Civil War in 'Free State of Jones' trailer

Matthew McConaughey is ready to fight for his country, even if he has to fight his country, in a trailer for his new movie, "Free State of Jones."

The upcoming film, set in in post-Civil War Mississippi, features McConaughey playing a disenchanted Southerner who attempts to found an integrated society during Reconstruction, even as his actions are deemed a rebellion.

Based on the true story of Jones County, it looks to be an inspirational movie, andthe post-racial aspirations of the plot may hint at designs on critical awards.

Directed by Gary Ross -- who also directed "The Hunger Games," "Pleasantville," and "Seabiscuit" -- "Free State of Jones" is scheduled for a May 13 release.
