DC Comics will see a "Rebirth" this summer, with a line-wide relaunch and a renewed focus on legacy and the shared universe. After weeks of teases, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns introduced the initiative to retailers at the ComicsPRO event with a video set to debut during DC's presentation on Thursday afternoon.

EXCLUSIVE: Geoff Johns Details "Rebirth" Plan, Seeks to Restore Legacy to DC Universe

CBR has the exclusive first look at the video, in which Johns compares the goals of "Rebirth" to his previous miniseries "Green Lantern: Rebirth" and "The Flash: Rebirth" -- except applied to the DC Universe as a whole.

"The whole point of 'Rebirth,' for all of us, is to get back to the essence of the characters," Johns says in the video. "In the 'DC Universe: Rebirth' special, the very first couple lines in it sum up what this is to me. There's a picture of the world, and the mysterious narrator says, 'I love this world, but there's something missing.'" Johns spoke in greater detail about the "Rebirth" plan in a one-on-one interview with CBR News.

"Rebirth" kicks off with the "DC Universe: Rebirth" one-shot, scheduled for release on May 25 and written by Johns and illustrated by Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez.
