Jack Reacher doesn't care if you think you're above the law -- he's still going to kill you. Paramount today released the first official trailer for "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," the sequel to 2012's "Jack Reacher." Tom Cruise returns in the title role, joined by "Avengers" standout Cobie Smulders, Robert Knepper and Aldis Hodge.
The sequel finds ex-Army investigator Reacher heading back to Virginia to meet up with Smulders' character Susan Turner, the head of his former military unit. However, things don't go exactly as planned and Reacher soon finds himself accused of a murder committed 16 years earlier, forcing him to embark on a cross-country search to find the truth. And he's going to inflict plenty of bone-shattering violence on anyone who stands in his way.
The film is directed by Edward Zwick, replacing "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" helmer Christopher McQuarrie, and written by Zwick, Richard Wenk and Marshall Herskovitz. Zwick and Cruise previously collaborated on 2003's "The Last Samurai." Jack Reacher was created by British author Lee Child and has starred in 21 novels to date.
"Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" is set to hit theaters on Oct. 21, 2016.
